What’s your unpopular Hermes opinion?

Buy what you want when you want it and if you can get it. Sounds simple but I’ve been learning this the hard way. Also spend does not equate to bags at all. I’ve been offered box leather C18 with no spend simply by getting along with the SA in an organic manner. Enthusiasm for the brand and charisma go farther. Too bad I was only gunning for top handle bags at that point in my life.

UO - SA turnover is noticeable and a newly-assigned SA is not your friend and you’re not paired with them in a “relationship”. Rather, they are someone who is sizing you up to try to maximize their commissions. You are playing a game against them to save as much of your hard-earned money as possible before acquiring a quota bag, while they are playing the game against you to try to take much of your money as possible before offering you a quota bag. It is financially wise to be polite and friendly but to be very clear in your own mind that if you care about saving your money, they are your adversary and not your friend. That, with a lot of patience, is your best chance at minimizing prespend before bag offers. Only buy what you want and don’t let them play you for a fool because they absolutely will if you let them.

‘Relationships’ at Hermes and anywhere else for that matter, take time. Just because I bought something in a shop it does not make it a relationship. It will take years of consistent shopping, no one has patience anymore. Also the relationship is not the target - it happens organically or it does not happen at all. It’s a very French way of doing things.

Probably VERY UO: as much as we all like to say “you can get exactly what you want at a reseller”, I think most clients (at least most who aren’t regulars on TPF) will have extreme decision paralysis if you offer up the entire universe of reseller bags available. The sheer number of colors and leathers, let alone the hardware, will overwhelm many who don’t have a collection built over time. There’s something to be said about being magically guided to a BK that I assume most accept and fall in love with instantly

This is a bummer to me. I don’t consider shopping a war- it’s a pleasure. And if it isn’t- why bother? If I want to save money I won’t go shopping- and certainly not at Hermes!

UO: Not a fan of the shoulder Birkin. The proportions don’t look quite right to me. I appreciate that it’s going for the east-west aesthetic and how convenient it would be to be able to sling a Birkin over the shoulder but I just don’t like the look of it. I think it would look a lot better if it had slightly more height.

UO: because of all the Walmart Birkin dupe hullabaloo, it might have become safer now to carry a Birkin with a blind stamp (Barenia/Barenia Faubourg leather) or a light-colored Birkin with a foil stamp that is less noticeable because it’s a similar color to the leather of the bag because at-a-glance, thieves may assume they’re knock-offs and leave you alone.

UO: Reselling prespend seems to be ramping up again lately. And seeing clients make posts with “everything must go” and “closet clean out” really diminishes the brand’s cachet imo particularly with anything Avalon or mosaic related or chypre or orans and bride brac items. Throw in finesse necklaces and watches as well. It looks like a company chapter 11 liquidation. Are these people that desperate for a qb? I get letting go something every once in a while where it doesn’t work out but selling bnib like this? Come on.
