My sure-to-be-super-duper-unpopular opinion is that the "prespend"/game/victim/desperation thing is a self-fulfilling prophecy:

Go online and see hundreds if not thousands of people wailing about how hard it is to get a bag.
Want the bag even more BECAUSE of this.
Read a zillion posts about spending 48:1 for a Garden Party and believe every word.
Walk into an H boutique with the idea that it's "spend and beg", spend like a drunken sailor with a no-limit Amex, and take whatever "quota bag" (awful phrase) that is offered.
Of course this just reinforces what actually happens in-store, and then the cycle repeats.

Not saying H isn't marketing the scarcity thing, bc they are, and always have been. But it's just not necessary to swallow every bit of "wisdom" that the Internet spreads. You can also just go shopping.

Bravo! Spell it out good and loud

Sometimes I wonder: :smartass: Hermès equals ???
Hermès = drama + stress?
or
Hermès = luxury shopping + fun?

And then - after a successful boutique purchase (ghosting SA or even lying SA turned "Angel-SA" or "my fairy SA") -
10,000 gone = happiness + pleasure?
or
10,000 gone = drama2 + stress2 for next 2QB
until another 10,000 gone or
maybe - 10,000 gone = bag in hand + hmm, that's all there is about?
or maybe = - no/not enough/not getting the hoped-for reaction from others.
:confused1:

well at end of the day drama sells. Most of these influencers post videos proclaiming their love/hate for a designer etc alternately depending on what’s selling. It does seem a bit empty but hey it works I guess.

Another unpopular opinion:

When i got my first QB the ‘happiness’ wore of after a few days. I was a bit anticlimactic because I though it would last longer.

I still love my bags and use them but I built up a type of suspense that was not realistic.

In the future I would be very picky with adding any quota bags. Maybe I will leave it at the 2 I have. Have I found peace purse?? Who knows..

I came to this thread to post this exact opinion. I’m “glad” it’s not an unpopular opinion.
I’ve noticed this dynamic affect the service given by SAs. I’ve been on the look out for an SA in the town I just moved to and my last experience was just… eh. I felt pushed to buy gold jewelry or leather rtw and basically not rly get much fun out of it. I never mentioned the desire for a bag… to be honest, I’m ok either way at this point. I just like Hermes and want to enjoy all the range instead of being shoved into the higher commission items… I got the coat another time and I have the jewelry, can I not just get a Twilly this time and wait for better items to come in?

Ok this became a rant haha

I agree with this! I love my bag but the excitement died down quickly. After reading so much on this forum about the “offer” I really was expecting a private room, champagne, etc. But after 2 years and a large spend, my B was just unboxed out on the floor. Funny thing is, when I went a month after, I was shown chypres in the “private room!”

My popular “unpopular” opinion is that I hate how much YMMV. It varies way too much! :panic:

I caught a lengthy clip on YouTube showing many people arriving for the Hermes event during Paris Fashion week. 95% of the bags carried would have been Hermes.
So many of the smallest Kellys looked silly: they were either too small, so that the ubiquitous iphones had to be carried separately; they looked like toys and were carried with the fingertips as if they contained delicate pattiserie.

A not, I hope, unpopular rider is that the Constances and DCs were all carried with style and looked oh so covetable!

Unpopular opinion: a bag is useless if it can't fit your phone. Welcome to the 2020s.

Ah, "getting the hoped-for reaction from others." Now that's H shopping in a nutshell.
Unpopular opinion du jour: No one knows what is going on with the forever scarves. Website pricing was off, they think Jungle Love will come in many colors.

Mine got deleted because of how it was worded, but here's my unpopular opinion:
orans > chypres

I finally got the chypres I've been waiting for (black in 36) after a 8 months wait, and I prefer my orans. Maybe my feet are narrow, but either the chypres fly off my feet or my pinky toe gets stuck in one of the holes every damn time. No matter how tight, it's like my feet are hanging on to its dear life every time i wear them. It's more comfortable than orans (because let's admit, Oran soles are like a piece of cardboard) but it's not like birkenstocks either. I actually think chypres are kind of cute, but I think orans look more elegant.

I'm with this unpopular opinion. Orans are a little floppy to walk in IMO but way > Chypres. I have skinny feet, so Chypres fall off me also. Even more unpopular (although I think @880 agrees on this one) Birkenstocks are not only more comfortable but cuter than Chypres, as well as being 1/5 the price. My podiatrist, osteo, and my gait specialist all agree on that :shrugs:

You aren't wrong - according to the social scientists and mick jagger - "you can't get no satisfaction" as in happiness the emotion is fleeting, but we like to chase it anyways. I am reading Arthur C Brooks and he breaks happiness into enjoyment (memory PLUS people)+Engagement with Family+Type of Friendships (REAL not transactional - transactional being you want something like you buy random and expensive stuff in order to make the SA like you)+Faith(A higher purpose, not necessarily religion, and not spending to beat the band)>>>> So in H terms happiness = Using your QB at dinner with family and friends to build memories with the people and events you associate with joy, and having a purpose that is more than scoring the next one!

So you're saying I need friends, hobbies, and goals beyond H to turn a bag into something emotionally fulfilling? Who has time for all that while being an active shopper, texting my SA daily to see if my dream bag has finally arrived, and re-organizing my closet for the fifth time this week so when my QB arrives, she has a special place to go?

/s in case anyone hasn't figured out my personality yet
