Some more unpopular opinions. Note, no judgement at all if you love any of these!

1. I don't understand the obsession with wicker. It's... essentially straw? To me it looks so much less luxurious than full leather. Just get a much cheaper wicker basket or tote for the beach... because sand!

2. The shadow birkin upsets me to look at. It's permanently askew, faking out on hardware, it can't close... just do not understand why people love this? The name is cool but the reality is :/

3. The kelly pochette feels like it could be amazing but falls short. It almost feels on purpose- like they know it would be too popular if they put a strap and feet on it. Or even just one of those!

2- the shadow birkin can close. It has internal sangles that snap it shut beautifully.

I think the Shadow Birkin is a cool concept. It’s a fun, somewhat low-key, version. Not sure if it’s worth it though, I prefer the look of the gorgeous shiny hardware!

It’s the Birkin en Desordre that upsets me to look at! It really truly is the ugliest bag i’ve ever seen. I don’t find it artistic or whimsical. I could go on but i won’t:giggle:

Another UO: I wish H made sunglasses! I could definitely see some cool chain d’ancre inspired designs.

I don’t think your opinion of the Shadow B is all that unpopular. It’s been a love or hate since it was released. There’s a reason it’s a limited edition bag. It’s not for everyone. Just like some love the sac a malice and others do not. My wife would kill for the picnic collection as to her it screams spring/summer but once again, it’s not for everyone.

My unpopular opinion this week is that double face scarves are really not worth it. One side is always awful, with too much yellow-gold, or just a pale or monochromatic version of the good side. You are not really getting two useable scarves, just one over-priced one. I have had several, only one is left in my collection.
I think this is why I don't have one yet! Still waiting for a double face scarf with two wearable sides. Of course, this doesn't stop me from wanting one.

I never see anyone hating on it, seems like it's all love when one pops up. XD

I have the disclaimer that it's no judgement if you have and love any of those items precisely because they're just my opinions. ^_^

I don't understand the wicker thing at all. I certainly adore Sophia Petrillo, but I can't get past the image of her when I see wicker bags.

I wish H made glasses or sunglasses. I think that we've seen enough stunning, tasteful jewelry to know that they'd make some beautiful pieces. But I do need to get some new glasses soon, and thanks to the "H of ___" thread, I'm going to look at Morgenthal Frederick!

My unpopular opinion, because it is the uncomfortable TRUTH, is that there are so many Hermes shoppers complaining about being victims lately. It truly is supposed to be fun. If you are a victim of lies, rudeness, etc., why continue?
Right? I don't get people who are crying and devastated over not being offered the opportunity to buy something. We're not talking about food or housing here. We're talking about luxury items. Lovely ones, but nonetheless, not anything that would make the difference between, say, having a safe place to sleep at night or roaming the streets until daylight. Do we all love H? Yeah, or we wouldn't be here. But seriously, the idea that people are entitled to a bag, well, it reminds me of one of my favorite South Park episodes...

My unpopular opinions:

- The Hermes game attracts a lot of people with low self esteem. Because you have to be offered a bag you have to be ‘worthy’. Which is true but these shoppers do not see the ‘worthy’ part as something it has to do with the business aspect of H but more with their personal worth.

- These are the same people that react VERY VERY emotional when being offered a bag. Their desire of being worthy enough has been acknowledged.

- These desperate people bring in the most money for the brand especially when there are a lot of people. If I was a SA without any conscience I would let you spend in eternity if i knew you were this desperate.

- A lot of people say they love H bur know nothing about the brand. They just the what it stands for in todays society.

- a lighter topic: Chypre are ugly.

I could go on for ages but i do see a trend (especially with social media) of proving you have to be worthy by receiving acknowledgment of others. In general the newer generations have a lit of deeper issues to face and we see them pop up in the Hermes space.

Thank you for listening to my monologue

You’re absolutely correct!! I’ve noticed this, and it makes me think of one small Youtuber, and self-proclaimed shopaholic, that I began watching recently. Maybe this is more appropriate in the Influencers thread, but watching him be so emotional over his Hermes Journey both in his home store in the US and in Paris just opened my eyes to how desperate some are for these bags. He recently finally got offered a bag after spending maybe 4+:1 i think and talked about how he now has the validation that he was looking for!
I’m happy when people get their dream bag for sure but i do think it’s sad to see people get so emotional over this when shopping should be enjoyable. When you start reading too much into SA relationships and pre-spend games it can seriously rob you of your joy.

To remain on topic:
This may not be unpopular to H shoppers but seems to be unpopular to H themselves lol. They should really open more boutiques in the Caribbean and in Africa. There are no H boutiques in all of Africa and that’s a real shame.

Here are a couple of unpopular opinions:

Clients who constantly chase bags and can’t seem to get their fill e.g., they just got a bag and they want another right away. They want to know if and when they can ask for another. They talk about prespend. They fly to different stores around the world trying to get bags. They are in a spending frenzy. The mindset is I want I want and gimme gimme. I’ve waited all of two days since my last qb and now I want another. I have a list of at least twenty bags I want.

So much of what is going on with these clients and H competition imo stems from avarice, envy, and gluttony. The writer of the alchemist once said “Greed blinds us from recognizing the true value of what we already possess.”

The Birkin and kelly are masterfully made bags to be treasured. imo they are not to be collected and amassed like Louboutin shoes and Pokémon cards. It’s clear that these clients more often than not buy bk to signal wealth. Newsflash for the flexers - this is a post Covid world where people are living yolo. Having one or multiple H bags no longer signals wealth because so many people have them whether real or fake. See eg this article discussion on luxury https://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu...ing-modern-luxury-consumption-pinar-yildirim/.

And, here’s my other unpopular opinion, these $590 hair clips remind me of the Pollyanna books and movies. Just no.
I wonder if this is a result of social media and newer generational lifestyles. Everything requires instant gratification. And those in that mindset/generational behavior, are willing push 8 streams of incomes to make their purchases happen. Back in the day, there was assumption that luxury goods is obtained after you have solid basics (home or other paid off assets, retirement settled etc). The newer generation has no issues living without any of the above in order to obtain the Lux goods they desire. Then there are those who made millions overnight from various start ups etc.!

Additionally with the evolution of tech, everything can be done instantaneously, almost expected in some cases. This creates a behavior of impatience across all generations, but more so newer ones, who hasn’t experienced the waiting in the first place.

Anyway, my unpopular opinion is that Hermes no longer minds that and understands their target customers are growing and evolving . We can see this reflected in their pieces and product lines over the years. Of course they prefer loyalty too, but at the end of the day, they are a business , not a non profit.

Btw I don’t have a view about if it’s right or wrong. Just an observation from the outside in.

My unpopular opinion is if I had a partner who made tons of $$ I would actually love to work at Hermes. Boutique, corporate you name it. Strategically their business model is genius. Lots to learn from.

And retail wise….how fun would it be to be surrounded by such beautiful pieces daily, whilst having many funny client stories to share, followed by reading these forums and thinking “all these people have it wrong. We have no method to the madness. Things just depend on whether or not we had a good breakfast that day”. Not to mention you don’t really have to “sell” anything. Everyone’s begging to buy stuff.

Oh and also I don’t understand why chypres are popular.
