My unpopular opinion re Hermes bags and travel: I don’t bring anything but a navy feutre TPM that blends into my clothing or even the airline seat. I want something light, collapsible, durable, and replaceable.

The only-H bags I ever took traveling were my Evelyne PMs- mistake, never again, and then my mini Halzan, which was great.

My unpopular-H opinion- the Evelyne is either too heavy and hurts your back, or too small with a big opening. Sorry I know people love it, but I know too many people that the PM has given back pain to.

Ooh, I *do* have an unpopular opinion regarding travel…DO NOT pack your Hermès bag in a way that calls attention to it! That means it needs to be inside another bag, and that bag should really be nondescript. Your best bet, 95% of the time, is inside a backpack.
That's what I do. I enjoy it once I get to my destination.

I have two mini Halzans and they are both go to travel bags.

I don't like the scarf La Vallee de Cristal. I know, Unicorn and so on but it's just not nice worn. Too much going on, too many colours, everything is sharp, not feminine.... Framed - ok, but not worn. Sorry! I tried to love it.
I'm finding that with many of the newer designs. The colors and designs are so cartoonish and loud, they just don't look good next to the face. I was in a store, and I asked the SA to try on some of the scarves, and they didn't look good on her as well.

I think it’s very busy too. And the colors are too vibrant and hard to wear. I absolutely love unicorns but I didn’t think this is wearable for me. Someone on the scarf thread mentioned it’s very Supermanesque. Agree. It does remind me of the old Christopher Reeve Superman movies with crystal scenes. I’d love to see some medieval style scarves with unicorns. Something tapestry style with subdued colors.

Yup silky city makes a great “packing cube” then you have a great crossbody at your destination. Unpopular but Birkin is not easy to travel with…

Here are a couple of unpopular opinions:

Clients who constantly chase bags and can’t seem to get their fill e.g., they just got a bag and they want another right away. They want to know if and when they can ask for another. They talk about prespend. They fly to different stores around the world trying to get bags. They are in a spending frenzy. The mindset is I want I want and gimme gimme. I’ve waited all of two days since my last qb and now I want another. I have a list of at least twenty bags I want.

So much of what is going on with these clients and H competition imo stems from avarice, envy, and gluttony. The writer of the alchemist once said “Greed blinds us from recognizing the true value of what we already possess.”

The Birkin and kelly are masterfully made bags to be treasured. imo they are not to be collected and amassed like Louboutin shoes and Pokémon cards. It’s clear that these clients more often than not buy bk to signal wealth. Newsflash for the flexers - this is a post Covid world where people are living yolo. Having one or multiple H bags no longer signals wealth because so many people have them whether real or fake. See eg this article discussion on luxury https://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu...ing-modern-luxury-consumption-pinar-yildirim/.

And, here’s my other unpopular opinion, these $590 hair clips remind me of the Pollyanna books and movies. Just no.

I don't know, maybe my unpopular opinion then is that I don't see an issue with clients who want to collect a number of bags, though I personally do not fall into this category. If these clients are able to spend the dollars needed to start large bag collections and this brings them joy and it is their hobby, all the power to them. These clients could be the VVVIPs that Hermes loves and wants to cater to and also could very much have a deep love for the brand and are not collecting for the sake of earning the next status symbol. I agree that I personally am not a fan of clients feeling entitled to their next bag or demanding a next bag immediately, but that I feel should be separated from clients that are desiring a next bag.

Yeah honestly peeling off stickers at the boutique sounds good to me.

I think the "go the reseller route" response comes from a swath of comments on this forum from new frustrated clients who are asking about their odds of getting a xyz bag. As we all know bag offers just depend on so many factors and there is no known formula so if someone is in search of a bag with specific specs it would be easiest and more economical to go the reseller route. I personally do not support resellers and would only buy vintage bags in the future, but this is just the reality of things right now.

Trust me I understand your frustration. I speak multiple languages so I've been getting some culture specific instagrammers being recommended to me on my feed. They upload picture of themselves shopping, filming bag offers and getting VIP treatment at the boutiques but if you read the comments (not in English) they talk about this bag being up for sale, how one might go about purchasing it etc. Its baffling to me how the SAs at the boutiques don't suspect this, or perhaps they just turn a blind eye. I've also seen some instagrammers who sell everything at massively inflated prices just because the demand is so high in their home country. They literally recruit "buyers" who essentially act as personal shoppers. I've even seen a case of an instagrammers who runs a "buying school," aka teaching other people how to run their own personal shoppers business, including how to smuggle these goods back into their home country without paying customs, how to redo the packaging etc. It's absolutely insane.
If H is aware of this, and I guess it is, this is tasteless and ignobly.
Ha, Hermes quasi invented "high-end trolling" of the regular target group.

Agreed. Live and let live.

Just caught up with the Hermes in Print thread and saw a press description of this scarf https://www.hermes.com/us/en/product/is-this-a-love-story-scarf-70-H984043Sv10/ as a "charming tale of an equine-meet cute". What is this? The descriptor is as bad as the design of the scarf being described.

Despite being old, I would describe my style as somewhat eclectic; I'm not really very traditional. Alas, I often find, this scarf being one instance, that 'juvenile' just isn't that interesting....
