What’s your unpopular Hermes opinion?

Absolutely! I shall be carrying my lovely kelly longue (sp?) to a wedding tonight.

And then to keep on theme, i find it odd people bemoan resellers and then talk about h as an investment. Doesn't that imply you intend to resell whether yourself or through someone? And if you are spending x times bag price to get a bag, doesn't your total cost of goods sold take out any profit you might gain from your "investment?"

NOTE: I have bought directly and indirectly and love all my H equally and unequivocally. My feeling is live and let live in terms of how you buy and what you do with your bag.... Enjoy the thing!
I don't think people have a problem with reselling used bags. The problem is that they create a market for those willing to just take bags, then sell them brand new. This makes it harder for people to get bags in the boutiques, or online, and inflates the prices.

I think the investment term comes from the media hyping up Birkins. Thus some people are misled to believe that handbags are genuinely great investment products. However, they can be investment pieces in the sense that you might wear them for your entire life. When I buy a bag I treat it as a consumable. In my mind that money is lost and in exchange I have obtained a sentimental item. You should only buy a bag if you are ok with losing that amount of money.
+1. My unpopular opinion is that monetary resale return/value is an illusion and I suspect most eBay (etc) resellers are borderline pyramid schemes. Like art, the largest part of the return on investment in a H bag is the pleasure of looking at it or carrying it.

- there are people who prefer to spend money in bags that know are a classic and that they can wear for years to come and that can be serviced after sales if needed. Other people prefer the trendy bag that reminds them of when they were younger and started being passionate about bags. I am the former type, that’s why I never looked twice at bags like Balenciaga Work or Fendi Spy, I never looked down at people who bought them, they sure liked and cherished them. Not to mention, for sure I never woke up one morning and went to the Bal or Fendi forums to write that their members are tasteless and suggesting they threw their money out of the window.
So my unpopular opinion is: world is so full with hate already, no need for it when talking about something futile like bags or fashion brands.

I guess we should refrain from posting any "unpopular opinions about Hermès" in the "unpopular opinions about Hermès" thread. Should probably post any future "unpopular opinions about Hermès" in the Balenciaga forum.

The pain caused by the financial effort and sacrifice has the psychological (if not psychiatric) effect of subliming for these people what is nothing but an expense into an investment. You know, transubstantiation... of sorts.
Cult-like behaviour.
And we see this play out regularly in the fb reseller groups. I don’t understand how it doesn’t get old for some people like “Jerry” or the person who sells twelve pairs of shoes. They must be losing so much money chasing bags, but they must still think of them as “investments.”

Back on topic here are my unpopular opinions: I’m not a fan of kaki which looks like the color of cat vomit. Sorry for the mental image. Also some designer must have been half asleep when they thought this combo looked good:

Perhaps this is just too avante-garde for me.

Def unpopular opinion as im one of those who like olive greens and mustardy colors. I actually like the Avalon’s color combo and it could be a combo option for a verso bag or even bicolor lol

The investment mentality

Ahistorical and ironic, clearly based on observing maybe the last fifteen minutes of social media Hermes, vs. its history. If any handbag brand is overall proven to hold value over time, it's Hermes. Consumer delusion about the concept of investment happens in all handbag tiers.

On topic, my wish is that the cashmere/silk shawl patterns sold in 140 size were also offered in a smaller size but still square format. (The patterns in men's aren't the same.) I can't work with that much fabric.

It was ridiculous. I get she wasn’t thrilled helping me and not getting credit for it. The manager suggested it because my SA had to step out for an emergency and I had an appointment. I had offered to come back another time and was told it wasn’t necessary. I was there for less than 20 minutes.
I honestly don’t make waves much, but I would have politely corrected her and pulled the manager into our conversation to communicate that it would be more pleasant and productive for me to come back or be helped by someone else. That’s terrible that you had to deal with that

unpopular opinion: it doesn’t matter to me how much I want an item if the service experience is lacking in basic courtesy.

I know I'm in the minority here (thus this thread), but I don't understand the obsession over the bleu jean color. I don't dislike it, but it doesn't do anything for me. I think it's because I tend to favor pale blues or darker blues.

Then again, I'm one of the people that fawns over rose sakura, so there you go.

well, maybe ppl feel safer carrying bleu jean bags with jeans?

I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion, maybe popular, but here goes mine:

The modern Hermès customer is a masochist. The mental energies devoted to quotas, prespend, influencers, lottery appointment, how to be supplicant towards SAs (!!!!!), have shifted the focus from appreciating the bags themselves to navigating a complex social interaction where one party is in a position of power and the other is essentially begging for the opportunity to make a purchase. This dynamic disempowers the customer and shifts their attention away from the actual merits of the bag, such as its design, materials, craftsmanship, how it fits into their personal style, and ultimately their enjoyment of the bag/s.
