What’s your unpopular Hermes opinion?

I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion, maybe popular, but here goes mine:

The modern Hermès customer is a masochist. The mental energies devoted to quotas, prespend, influencers, lottery appointment, how to be supplicant towards SAs (!!!!!), have shifted the focus from appreciating the bags themselves to navigating a complex social interaction where one party is in a position of power and the other is essentially begging for the opportunity to make a purchase. This dynamic disempowers the customer and shifts their attention away from the actual merits of the bag, such as its design, materials, craftsmanship, how it fits into their personal style, and ultimately their enjoyment of the bag/s.
Probably very popular  as Hermes, for better or worse, seems to view bags as a perk reserved for favored top spenders
or those with a long history who continue to shop, both relatively small pools. I do believe that if one does not love boutique merchandise, and if one is unwilling to spend for said merchandise, it is both unrealistic and masochistic to try to buy a bag from the boutique today.

my unpopular opinions are that the demand of these bags will wan, and reseller prices, always an indication, are already softening. It’s a matter of time. Those who simply view an H bag as a coveted fashion item or flex will find the wait intolerable and move to other things. The rest of us will still be here to discover, among other things, new interpretations of old classics. In addition, I don’t see H shopping as a power play. There are plenty of beautiful things in the world, and nowadays, plenty of ways to find the right thing. It‘s a business model and supply and demand. Decades ago, before the euro, those who had a bit disposable income, could easily travel abroad to shop for luxury items. I think of this as the pendulum swinging the other way.

This, and this again. Fashion and flex motives are not really what makes H wonderful; not that the corporate financial obligations don’t push H leadership into policies and products that don’t appeal to me. But that’s when I look elsewhere.

+1. My unpopular opinion is that monetary resale return/value is an illusion and I suspect most eBay (etc) resellers are borderline pyramid schemes. Like art, the largest part of the return on investment in a H bag is the pleasure of looking at it or carrying it.
Unpopular opinion: I stop listening whenever someone starts talking about their bag as an investment.

My unpopular opinion of the day… why is it that sometimes I hate an item and it’s look, then month or even a year later, I have a change of heart. this has happened to me in all H categories. For god’s sake, those chypre sandals could not have possibly been any uglier last year…. But this month i needed to know what the hype was. I now know. I get it. Happy feet.
Unpopular opinion - I hate H items until I love them 😂

My unpopular opinion, the Birkin 25 looks too small and out of proportion on many people. Seems like people buy/wear the 25 because its on trend, but it looks ridiculous on them, like they're carrying a toy bag.
I agree, the B25 looks silly to me- like a toy version of the 'real' Birkin. You can't even carry it under the crook of your arm, only by hand!

Unpopular opinion: The B25 is for me only nice looking at the low end of my goal weight.

One donut too many and I look like a bobble head*

unpopular opinion: I don’t mind the hand carry aspect, as it reins in any tendency to overload a bag

ETA: come to think of it, my head is larger than my B25, no matter how much I weigh, Lol

My opinion on H bags at resale market: I dont understand how some consignemwnt stores would post an instagram live of H bags that just arrived in their shipment for sale. Literally cutting the packaging on that live or opening the shipment box. Why are they announcing a bag to be for sale soon when they literally just received and not even authenticated it. Who are they kidding?

Thats why i seldom trust consignment stores. Buy with caution and do your own research.

I think bags with a tophandle silhouette would be ok in size 25 as a cute evening or date night bag.

If it was a tote like- double handle bag in 25 such as th B25, it looks silly on both vertically and horizontally challenged.
Plus, I don't know how many times I've seen people carrying around the B25 totally overflowing because its too small for their stuff.

Ooh, I *do* have an unpopular opinion regarding travel…DO NOT pack your Hermès bag in a way that calls attention to it! That means it needs to be inside another bag, and that bag should really be nondescript. Your best bet, 95% of the time, is inside a backpack.

And that's exactly where mine remains while traveling through airports, on the plane, through stations, and on the train. There's no reason for it to be out, unless it's being used as my "under the seat" carryall bag...in which case, I'd have a B35 or B40.

Edit: For the bags with a crossbody strap, I'd be OK with have those out and about while traveling.
