Unpopular opinion:

H gives out way too many boxes. It is a pain to toss them. They could really cut down on the packaging and reduce the environmental footprint. It also seems very frivolous to put every single item in a designated box. It is a marketing technique to make the purchase experience and each item seem special and make sure the customer gets that dopamine hit so they can come back for more for like Pavlov's dog. Unfortunately while my rational self knows this, my heart is not immune. I guess I am the dog.

Side note: I recently learned that people sell their boxes to influencers. I am not surprised but at the same time now there's a black market for packaging? That is nuts.
completely agreed! i have recently asked for only tissue paper/no box for items such as rtw, as well as a non-branded white bag to carry items home, since i can reuse them much more easily than my 50th orange bag/box.

If H was to put, say, SLGs in a dust bag, I would be more than happy to forgo the box. I do this with literally every other luxury brand. So my unpopular opinion is that H charges an arm and a leg for SLGs, more so than other brands, and provides no storage other than heavy, cumbersome boxes - which everyone says are bad for storing leather long-term. I don’t need more boxes, but I do need a way to store.

My *unpopular* Hermes opinion is: it is rude and self-entitled to interrupt a conversation between an SA and a client to help you with YOUR seemingly more important "needs." I used to think this was a popular opinion, but it has now happened to me three times recently while engaged with my SA, so now I am actually wondering. The first time, my SA and I were chatting at my appointment, and this woman stepped forward literally in between us and asked my SA for help. I was like, Hello? I just stared at her dumbfounded that someone could be so clueless and crass. My SA called another SA to help her. The second time, my SA was showing me an item in a side room, and this lady walks over and stands there waiting to be recognized. Thankfully my SA kept her focus on me, and the lady finally walked away and complained she can't get help (to which she was told all SAs were with clients and someone would help her when free). And the third time was more of the same aggravating self-importance.
I realize this can happen in any brand boutique (or any setting, for that matter), but TBH this has not happened to me at Chanel or anyplace else. Must be just my luck. Hopefully there will be less of this impatient, ego-centric culture, and more courtesy and manners.

The same thing happened to me once at my home store, this lady a tourist kind of known (is on some reality show) just barged into a conversation with my SA and said needed help on something. She kept coming back 2-3 times and I had to wait because she was so persistent that my SA went to speak to her and her husband who was waiting. I was just so annoyed and I’m appalled as to how people lack courtesy and basic manners.

Possibly unpopular. H why are you still making ashtrays in gorgeous colors and designs when we are mostly a society that is encouraged not to smoke (bad for your health, skin, etc). Why can’t you make other non ashtray ceramic products with the same dedication as you do for ashtrays (oh and I own some ashtrays bc they are so pretty)
well, are the French still smoking?:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::doh: (I agree with you though)

Probably highly unpopular at TPF: there's nothing wrong with going the reseller route. As long as you buy from reputable resellers, either you get a new bag in exactly the specs you want, with no wait or "game playing" / "journeying", and the markup is probably the same as your "prespend", or you find vintage gems at reasonable prices that the boutique wouldn't be able to offer anyway (but they'd be thrilled to see you use the lovely vintage bags in person!).

Totally agree with you about nothing wrong with going the reseller route. But it is annoying when some Hermes high fliers on here recommend reseller route when it’s obvious that they themselves don’t purchase from resellers and have excellent standing at the flagship boutiques. If one is going to recommend reseller route, at least base it on your own experience.

Yes totally agree! I got a vintage croc B30 from Sotheby's auction at a pretty decent price, as well as a 20 year old slouchy B35 in buffalo skipper leather from Fashionphile! I have taken both to the boutique and have gotten compliments from my SAs!

This will be unpopular. I know on here we often say oh if you don’t want to play the game and/or just want bags go reseller. But doesn’t that help perpetuate the inflated prices for bkc and other bags? Isn’t this why we can’t even buy bags off of the website? All those buyers with bots swoop up the bags before anyone else can have them. Then they sell them brand new on fb, ig fp rr etc. And if you ever wondered how they don’t get caught? They also provide a service to clients where they use client accounts and credit cards.

I also know some who get offers straight from the boutique including fsh and take bags they never intend to keep. They promptly sell the bags at inflated prices - really coveted bags. Specs that are someone else’s dream bag. This irks me so much.

I’m all for capitalism and a free market but this side of h and reselling of new bags is very annoying. These flipping practices have been detrimental to clients who actually care for the brand.

As I’ve said before I wish H would blacklist people who sell brand new bags. It will discourage “clients” who resell and will make others really think before they take an offer. I see too many posts on sm of oh my sa offered me x and I’m not really sure if I should take it bc I really want y blah blah blah. Also H ought to take all stickers off at the store. That will discourage people esp influencers from taking bags they don’t intend to keep and from flipping them too.

Edit - to clarify I have no issue with reselling H bags that are not new.

They do sometimes but usually it's difficult to do because the clients do not sell it themselves. They often consign it, so unless the bag is a very specific SO, or unless the original receipt is reported to H, it couldn't be traced back to a particular client. Also, the big resellers of brand new bags are difficult to catch because they are not the ones directly buying the bags from the store. They employ several buyers who would work up their way to get QBs--they have more than enough resources to play the prespend game, and they train their buyers to look like genuine H lovers who would ooh and aah at savoir-faire, equestrian heritage, types of leathers, etc etc.

LOL, in Europe a lot of people still smoke a lot.
