What’s your unpopular Hermes opinion?

There was a time that I was upating the price thread every day based on what I saw released online that day (even if I couldn't buy any of it!), but then I realized with some annoyance that one of the purse publications (bop) was copying off the thread without attribution to our group. (To be fair, I'm not sure why I was worked up about it.... this is a freely available forum....)
That publication basically copies and pastes content from here...but unless we put everything in spoiler mode there's not much we can do.

I agree. On the other hand, I can see when they get too minimal like the Row some people will think it’s just a black bag/shirt/pants like any other. Why am I paying throw the nose for this?

It’s a fine line to walk. To be distinctive but not too recognizable.
I agree. I was wearing a white Canoe shirt today and because of my blazer not much of it was visible. Someone came up to me after a meeting saying my tshirt looks amazing. So it was somehow recognizable as interesting at least from even just the cut/neck, with no H signs in sight. That’s the sort of RTW I like spending “luxury” money on: not completely “quiet”, but more of a “oh cool” vs “oh hi huge Hermes Paris written across your shirt”.

My unpopular opinion is that Hermes is way late to the baggy cut game. I get that it’s not in their usual style but it is so ubiquitous these days that you’d think they’d have a couple more pieces for daywear/office wear.

And why are all of their jackets cut so short?

My unpopular opinion. I really love some of the mens styles and muted colorways, and i wish they would consider some for women. I buy some, but even the smallest sizes are sometimes too boxy and cannot be altered. May new favorite shirt in black watch techo fabric in the smallest men’s size:

Yes! Both Hermes and Dior create some wonderful pieces for the men's lines, but sadly they are just not wearable in men's cuts for me either and I would love to see them cut for women! Love the techno fabric shirt you bought!

Thank you @luckylove
There was an amazing Hermes men’s black watch plaid hooded trench, but the tailor said he could not take it in…. Bc of the pockets. The only alteration possible was to shorten the sleeves lol
I am fond of dior mens too :)

@BreezyE, I wonder if the jackets are cut short bc of the Asian market

Agree. I think logos are just easy for any brand. Just slap logos on smth and it will sell due to the mass appeal nature of those items. But to actually have a piece that’s made from a nice material with a cut that enhances the wearer and a design that’s unique enough to garner attention requires a lot of craft and time. Much harder and less profitable.

I’m right there with you…I want the luxury to be in the design and fabric not in giant logos or other designs that indicate brand. My fave pieces of H RTW are simple and beautifully designed and I get compliments every time I wear them and yet there is no obvious indication that they are H. Conversely, I struggle to find the appeal of most of the women’s RTW which is emblazoned with Hs or covered in bridles or stamped with some other ‘symbol’ of the brand…don’t even get me going on the twillânes ;) Unpopular opinion?

Not impressed with the new dog raincoats. I like that they’re water resistant, but there should have been more thought regarding design and practicality. However a lot of raincoat designers fail on this. Maybe this is ok for a light drizzle but coats like this offer zero protection from the wet weather on the underbelly and legs. I would love to see a rain jacket with more coverage underneath. Perhaps a zip closure type full jacket with forearms. This jacket just looks like a sheet of polyamide. Also color choices are drab and beige is a terrible choice. Dogs outside in rain? That beige jacket will be brown in no time.

I, on the other hand, gasped when I saw this  I think the design is fab and the colors are beautiful. I don't know what the fabric is like in real life, but I would assume that anything waterproof would wipe off easily and not get discolored.

I bought a noir ex libris twillane bc I used to collect ex libris, but I’m not entirely comfortable wearing something so iconically H. On the other hand some amazing RTW comes and goes that I never got to see it or try it on. . . im not sure if Hermes doesn’t order much of it bc everyone wants overtly branded RTW, but that’s my assumption or unpopular opinion. Here is the item I missed. My SA researched it and said it was from 2021, though nothing I’ve ever seen.

That’s the exact same one I asked about a few pages back. My SA said it’s long gone :hrmm:

:graucho: Do you work for hermes?

I imagine brown and black specks on this getting smudged and streaking. This is water resistant not waterproof.

My unpopular Hermes opinion is that I think the brand has moved into a less refined territory. From using all or mostly all rose gold in fine jewelry, to stamping a brand on shoddier items (see dog raincoat above), or super casual sandals, Hermes is now catering to a broader audience and quality has gone along with it.

I've collected scarves for 30 years and had bags. I have beloved watches, and one classic bracelet, but what I am seeing lately is something different.

It's less Jane Birkin and Grace Kelly, and more Kardashian and WAG.

But they aren't the only one. Other brands took a dive, too because the definition of luxury changed. It isn't about the same kind of quiet wealth that Grace Kelly might have shown, things are more overt now, louder, and (I'm sorry if I'm offending people, but this is my unpopular opinion), perhaps more vulgar.

They have to guard the Birkin's and Kelly's from the rest of us, because they don't want us to get them and ruin the brand, meanwhile the Kardashians and Influencers are devaluing it--and Hermes is enabling it.

Something has changed in the luxury story. I don't know...Hermes just seems more overt and pushy and I'm not sure I'm loving this direction of the past decade or so.
