What’s your unpopular Hermes opinion?

My unpopular opinion is: Hermes doesnt owe anyone anything if its your anniversary, bday, honeymoon, etc. i cringe at those who make a scene and complain their anniversary is ruined or their dinner appt is cancelled because theyve been waiting in line to be entertained by an SA at the leather dept. This happened in Madison store nyc during the opening week and the tall manager handled the manipulative customer in a cool and calm way. Im like, dude, i was here 2 hrs before you, wait for your turn lol
My fave is overhearing “well, it’s my birthday month…”

I hate the orange boxes. All of them, including the limited edition blue insert. It’s cardboard and landfill.

And, I think it’s a serious security hazard if your building staff and neighbors see outward trapping of shopping, like bags, garment bags, boxes, etc. I don’t even want them in the recycling bin.
@880 my DH would love you:lol: I keep every single box & bags it's taken up half of my small closet:giggle:

Ditto! I usually ask my SA not to box stuff but, at other stores, that's challenging. I also try to remember to bring my own shopping bag but I'm old and I forget sometimes. Today I got both an orange bag and a giant white bag for a tiny raincoat! DH asked what else I had bought.

I like the orange boxes, lol but I agree about the security hazard. I don’t like throwing away old or messed up boxes or bags, mailers etc in the recycling bin. People go through recycle bins in my neighborhood for cans and bottles. I hate it when the mailman doesn’t put my mail fully inside my mail box or just leaves the Hermes or Chanel etc catalogues out by the mailbox and strangers can speculate where I shop or what I have inside.

I totally agree though I hate boxes in general and lately have been declining them. For someone living in a small apartment they just take place from cupboard that does not exist. Larger shopping bags are good to be used as recycling units to carry out glass, paper, metal etc to the recycling bins outside. Smaller bags are useless. Besides I prefer to carry shopping in my bag if they fit. Hands free everytime it is possible.

I feel the same way and they take up so much room inside my cupboards and drawers! But somehow I can’t seem to get rid of them. The worst is when I acquire a vintage piece that comes with its original decades-old box. I feel like if the previous owner took all that care to preserve the bag in its box, how can I get rid of it? What’s wrong with me!?:no:

I purged my closet of at least 50 H orange boxes, maybe even more. Crushed them all with my foot and threw them in recycling bags and left them on the curb. It didn’t occur to me the safety hazard leaving them out in plain sight but you are so right. I just didn’t want people going through my recycling to grab my boxes so I destroyed them.

Cancel me now... I don't love or even like the "heritage" leathers. People keep telling me that the age beautifully and develop a lovely patina and so on and so on, but I'm seeing something completely different when I see a used barenia/box/etc. item. No issues with saddles- I could see it as a badge of honor to show all the sweat from horses and humans, but on bags, I'm just not seeing it.

2nd unpopular opinion and off topic, but it is about all the other off topic posts in this thread. I love this thread when it deals with Hermès items, Hermès boutiques, Hermès corporate, etc. but it is painful to read when it becomes a thread to bash other members on tPF the way they shop Hermès or the way they write about their experiences/opinions in other threads or how they act on IG/YT or whatever. I think there needs to be a separate H thread for members who feel the need to vent about H customers.

I personally love the big orange boxes (the bigger the better) for re-gifting. There’s nothing quite as fun as a carefully wrapping a book or small trinket in one of them as a gift.:giggle:

YES. Although it depends where you are in your H history. 15+ years ago I kept every little thing, boxes, ribbon, bags, catalogues etc. Today it‘s just too much. I think I mentioned before, but one of my SAs got really mad with me when I tried to refuse boxes. She said it’s part of the experience!

But I really noticed the security aspect when I had workers in the house the past few months. One in particular actually commented on the (empty) boxes in storage, saying how nice they were…I always thought I should hang on to them if I should ever decide to sell something, but I never seem to. Maybe it’s time to purge.

Do you think we can give the boxes back to the boutique? Mine are still in good condition so they can reuse it. They are taking up space in my house…
