What’s your unpopular Hermes opinion?

The price increases for H which rumor has it will be across the board for shoes, scarves,
jewelry etc (phasing in around Feb 15th) will be off putting for some but not for all.
What I'm hearing from SA's is that clients are not feeling the "value" of the increases
it's not about whether the client has the pocket for it. So I would imagine the pre-spend
will become that much more competitive & with limited inventory even more so, JMO
This is a good point. My store has been already quieter in the past few months and that is prior to the price increase but I suspect it is due to less foot traffic and more regular clients are shopping.

Not sure if this has already been stated but my unpopular opinion is Epsom leather feels like the leather used on Kate Spade bags. I only own a wallet in Epsom, but my sister has a Kate Spade bag and they feel almost the same. Her bag was $200 and the wallet is now over $2K with the price increase. I don't think it's worth that. I guess that's my other unpopular opinion.

I only have a calvi in epsom and even that I regret but the color was too cute. It just doesn’t feel nearly as luxurious and you couldn’t pay me to carry an epsom bag. Not only does it feel not worth it as you say, but I also don’t like the look of it. If I could ever find any stock for a cute color calvi not in epsom I’d throw away my Epsom one…

Ok, since my stock portfolio flopped last year and who knows when and how long it will take to recover, I do not like how much Hermes costs. But I will pay it because I am an Hermes addict and just cannot stop. I am sure my husband has a pill for that.

and that's a unpopular opinion because...?

SAs definitely know and use the term “quota bag”.
Yes- you are quite right. If they hang out on IG or social media ( which is a fact of life) they will know the terms, but in the UK at least best not to use those and they are not official terms.
It would be highly in-advisable to walk in and say ‘hi SA, I am here to play the Hermes game for a quota bag, and my pre spend is 1:2 what categories do I need to buy now, for our relationship to bloom? ‘
Kelly’s and birkins are wishlist items, one may or may not, be able to purchase one or two a year and there is no official prespend requirement. Though of course desirable items are likely to be allocated to ‘regular’ clients who buy RTW, homeware, shoes etc.

I hate the standard-length shoulder strap of the Kelly. It makes the bag swings wildly and uncontrollably and it feels like the bag is slipping off from my shoulder all the time.
Still waiting for the canvas longer strap to see if it would be better before I decide conclusively that Kelly is STRICTLY a handheld bag for me.
*shudder to some, I am sure*

It was originally a handheld bag, so it stands to reason it works better that way.

I prefer a bag with a certain amount of age, slouch, and weathering, not brand new.
I prefer premier designer RTW to look like brand new, deadstock, even if decades old.
I would rather mix and match designers within an outfit, even when the items are meant to be worn together
Some mini bags look contrived on me, so I might carry a slightly larger even if it’s almost entirely empty.
sometimes a less expensive shoe helps to ground a premier designer outfit
Hermes sneakers can be really heavy and uncomfortable; and the tiret or H detail doesnt really work for my style

Sounds like this might be unpopular, but I have no complaints and am I fan of my Epsom bag (Bolide 27). It’s my first H bag and honesty even the (perceived lowly) epsom leather is head and shoulders above any other bag I’ve owned, including Chanel’s caviar. Mine has the wonderful leather smell that I get a whiff of whenever I open my closet door. Yes it’s stiff and I couldn’t call it buttery, so perhaps my opinion will change as I get bags in other leathers, but I do find it beautiful and “luxurious” when compared to my other non-H bags.

I don’t like minis. I think very few people can wear them without the proportions looking unbalanced. But on the plus side, the mini trend seems to have had a positive effect on the comparative price of some larger bags in the vintage market (ie Kelly 25/28 v 32; Birkin 25/30 v 35). This definitely encouraged me to pull the trigger on my gorgeous vintage barenia ebène K32!

Agree. I think it’s very easy to pull off a larger bag even if you’re petite. The Olsen twins still look chic with their b30 or 35s. But the mini or smaller size bags can be challenging. Of course to each their own, but I don’t think it’s a great look when b25 handles look like they have a chokehold on someone’s wrists.

I’m kinda in the same boat. I’m very afraid of lizards, to the point I can’t bring myself to touch a lizard embossed handled of a Chanel CCH, so owning a lizard bag is a nonstarter.
Possibly unpopular opinion from me, but I keep and breed reptiles (specifically, geckos and snakes) so I don't want any exotic for precisely the opposite reason- I would feel horrible carrying an ex-friend as a bag on my arm when my Whole hobby revolves around caring for them and keeping them healthy and happy. (If you ever want help getting over your lizard fear, pm me! ;) )

My most used H bags are my vintage ones - some rehomed from my mom, some from Japan. I love my latest K32 but I prefer the older K32.
They are nearly pristine, but I love the idea they’ve been around and have seen some things.
