What is the most that you'd spend on a handbag?

I have to admit this thread has put my spending in perspective! I'm gonna shed a bit - definitely been exceeding my budget. Props to all of you who stick to your guns on budgets and spending. Time for me to return to reality too. :smile1:

At this point in my life since i'm really young and still a student, i couldn't spend over $500 on a bag for 4 reasons
1) I only work part time for min wage and can't afford anything more
2) My tastes may change as i get older and i don't want to spend alot on something that i may not like later on
3) I live with my parents and they would KILL me if they ever found out i spent that much on a bag
4) I would feel extremely guilty(I still feel guilty about my latest marc jacobs purchase)

However, when i get older and start a real career i'll probably be willing to spend $1500-2000 max

Wow - minimum wage must have really gone up! When I made minimum wage I worked two jobs (one full time and one part time) to pay for rent and Kraft dinner six days a week (Sundays I had a chicken breast). I had some nice co-workers that gave me their old clothes and my only bag was a cloth one I stitched up myself.

haha! it's 10.25 here in ontario, canada but luckily i still live at home so i don't have to pay for rent etc, my income goes towards savings and bags!

I don't have certain limits for bags, if I like it and I can afford it, I buy it. But I do have limits for certain brands. For Coach, no more than $200. $300 max for Marc by Marc Jacobs. If they're more than that, I rather save up for an LV. No more than $2,000 on an LV, I rather spend the money on a Chanel flap bag. But if the bag is $4,000, then the money is better to go for an Hermes..

I wear very cheap clothes (no more than $10 on t-shirt/shorts, $20 on hoodies, $50 on shoes -- I was having a hard time last week buying a $30 jeans from Guess lol). I save up my travel money by walking whenever I can ($1.50 for a bus is expensive) I eat cheap, don't party or don't travel alot. But when it comes to bags, it's a different story :graucho:

Back in 2008 I spent quite a bit on Hermes bags. The most expensive bag was $8300 for a Hermes 30cm Gris Tourterelle Clemence Birkin. I am not sure if I will go back to Hermes again. For now, I find LVs more practical.

I would probably spend $4,000 max for a bag and not purchase any other handbag for the rest of the year. On the average, I spend $6k-8k on handbags and wallets per year, that's about 3-4 handbags and wallets.

Wow!! Probably you're one of the hottest TV/movie stars in the Philippines who can afford all these bags! I soooo envy you!

I have a $1,600 maximum on LV (only b/c I really want a Galliera PM but have been talking myself out of it lately). I try to buy pre-owned as much as possible and always have the mods here authenticate for peace of mind. The only bag I would pay be willing to pay $2200 is a Mirage Speedy but I'm still holding out on that one too. I agree with a lot of recent posts about not wanting spend a lot on clothes I don't know why but I just can't do it but for a purse its usually not a big deal, lol. I do have a limit on non-LV and prefer to shop in the outlets for all other designer handbags and if its more than $200 I'd rather buy a LV:)

Right now, b/c I am starting a new job, need to move (I really want to snag a foreclosure), and need a new car, I can't spend anymore than $500. Plus there are a few vacations I want to take, and have to replace and refurnish a bunch of stuff at once, when I move.
Once I beef things in my savings up a bit, I will go up to $1500. When I really start making decent money, I'll spend what I like. But right now, even that $500 is pushing it.

Plus between all of my hobbies, music, books, shoes, makeup, clothes, and purses, I have to budget. LOL

While tastes change and I could always think of reasons to justify spending a certain amount of money on bags, realistically speaking (i.e. no winning lotteries) I highly doubt I would spend over $5000 on a handbag (not that I have spent anywhere close to that amount on 1 bag, but I might if I love the bag enough!).

Hmmmm.... good thread. I'm the type who would rather put money for life experiences (ie eating, travelling, adventure, taking lessons or advanced studies) than material things. Having said that, I also do recognize the importance of pampering yourself once in a while. In my case, I don't spend a lot on my clothes, shoes, gadgets, etc. But, well made, excellent quality bags are my must haves. ;) I have set a personal limit for bags around USD 2000 / Euro 2500 per piece, no more than 2x a year. Usually, I invest on classics that I don't mind being stuck with for years.
