What is the most that you'd spend on a handbag?

The Chanel I want is $3500, but I would have to spend my kids' college funds so that is out of the question! If I were earning a decent salary I would probably go for it...or if I ever get the money I was left in a will that has been probated going on 3 years now.
The most I've spent is $1300 CAD and the most I am willing to spend on a handbag is $1600. Anything over that limit, I just can't justify. Besides designer handbags, I spend a lot of money on each piece of clothing as well, so I can't really spend thousands on one handbag. I think I can justify a $2000 - $3000 handbag if I start clothes shopping at cheaper stores like H&M, Old Navy or Forever21.
$1200 for a Chanel Flap. I think its worth it and I love this little bag. I'm not really sure what my limit would be. I have a little wish list going and I know I will have to spend more to get all the bags I want. I'm just trying to space my purchases out a little bit.
I'm comfortable under $3000, after that I figure I might as well put my name on the list for a Birkin
Totally agree. There seems to be a huge jump from just under $300 up to $4500 for an off the peg bag. At that point it's 'take me to Hermes!' X
It really depends... on the bag, the position of the economy....etc.
For leather, the right name, and the economy looking like it might recover my limit would be 2,500. (with a sizable donation to a local charity to balance to harmony of the world.)
For leather, the right name, and the economy looking like it is going to smash every working American and drown them in their own misery my limit would be one of those recycling bags that they sell everywhere for a dollar and I would hoard any remaining money I could muster in the darn thing. (large bills~ just for kicks!)

prior to joining tpf, my limit was $400. then i bought my first LV and my limit doubled. now i am getting ready to break the $1000 mark, something i never thought i'd do. part of the reason for my rising limit is my husband. he pushed me to buy my first bag and now only wants me to buy designer. i showed him a pic of the $1300 LV bag i want for the summer and he said, "hmm, not bad.
Oh man. Was a time I thought $300 was a lot to spend on a bag. Ignorance is bliss, I guess. For the right bag (leather, right designer, enduring style, wear-with-everything color), and if I could buy it in cash, it would be $2500. I don't think I could ever justify spending more than that, though if, perhaps, I won the lottery, a Birkin wouldn't be out of the question.....
