Great thread!

I spent £1120 on a Spy a couple of years ago after obsessing about it for months(you'll all know the feeling - 'my life will end unless this bag is mine') and really regretted it. Not the cost -the fact that, when I finally got round to using it, gosh I loathed that bag.Too big, too much of a pain to get in and out of....*sigh*. Big, huge expensive mistake.
BUT. Its made me think very carefully about what I spend my cash on now - I know which brands work for me and I only ever pay cash. So I'd say my limit is around £800 - £950....can't bring myself to hand over any more than that.

That is exactly what happened to me! I got the spy after having lusted over it for a full year, but when I got it (in black, instead of the choc I wanted) it was such a let down. It's wonderfully light, but it scratches easily and mine even has a hole in one of the corners. The flap won't close anymore etc. The quality is just crappy, but it really made me think about quality issues and how much I'd spend on a bag. That's why I'm sticking to mulberry now (great quality) and I'm saving up for Hermes :graucho:

The most I've spent so far is $875 CAD, but my limit that I feel comfortable with is $1500 CAD. I'm going to go over the $1000 mark pretty soon though, we'll see how I feel after that, but I'm pretty sure that $1500 will always be my "comfortable" limit.

Right now, my limit is $700.
But later, the max I'd go is $1000, because I feel I shouldn't spend too much since my job is only during the summer.
But I may make an exception for a Chanel purse, when things get better. I feel guilty spending so much when the economy sucks right now.

probably the most i'd ever spend spend on one bag is abt one month's salary (on say a Birkin or a Kelly), but i'd only do it for a special occasion (i.e. 5 year wedding anniv). for the most part, i try not to go above $1000.
