the most expensive bag i would ever buy is an Hermes Birkin. fortunately, i'm not into those crazy-colored exotic-leather Birkins, so that would save me some money

If I really wanted it I would have to save part of my paycheck every week..just put alittle away. I wouldn't touch my savings account for a bag but something I might really need later on down the road. I, right now in my life, wouldn't want to spend no more that $1000 on a bag.
If its worth having you can save for it. Besides at least for me, I'm fickle so saving up helps me decide if I really love it.
The most I'd spend (and I have) is $1000 but only because I got an extra payment that covered it. Otherwise I wouldn't have done it.
The most I'd spend is $5000. I haven't found a bag that I want so bad worth that much, though. Maybe a Birkin, some day.
I don't dip into my savings account for purses, but if it's extra cash that I have-sure! To me savings is just that-savings & to be used only in emergency or for large purchases (car or house).
It would depend on the designer I guess..but the most for me would probably be around $2000-$3000. It's an investment! 
For now I would spend up to $800 if I really like it. I'm still trying to pay off my debt for school loan, live by myself and other things to worry about financially. I pay off all my debt (ccard) every month so I don't carry anything else besides my school loan so realistically, that's my range for now.

I have loved this bag since it cam out.
Now spending that would all depend on my $$ situation, but if $$ wasnt an issue i'd buy it with no real thought.
