What is the most that you'd spend on a handbag?

For me there is a difference between how much I can spend and what am I comfortable spending. Financially I could save for a bag that is upwards of $5000. It would take me a few months since my husband and I both have expensive hobbies, kids who would like a new gadget or go on vacation etc. But I have to say that sometimes I am questioning myself. Do I really want to spend $500, $1000, $3000 on a friggin' handbag?! I know: the quality, the craftsmanship, the durability, I'll have it forever blah blah blah. But really? So while I have spent several thousand $ on a bag in the past I keep thinking about all the good that could be done with the money...

I spent most on my CHANEL 2.55 & GST and HERMES KELLY.

But no regrets at all! Because since then, I always make a plan to purchase 1 handbag in a year and during my birthday only (on or before). No other purchases except a designer handbag only. Then my collections gets bigger and happier :D :smile1: ;)

I can SO relate.

For some reason, and I don't know why, I am ok with spending on one brand but not any others. I am ok in the $1500 to $2000 for Marc Jacobs, but I don't feel the same about paying that or more on other brands. Been there, done that, lost money, bags weren't up to par, etc. Not going there again.
I would rather buy 2 MJs than 1 bag of a different brand that costs the same amount as those 2 MJs.

If the bag were to get ruined somehow, that is an amount I am comfortable losing. But anything more - like a $3000 bag - and it were to get ruined, I would be flat out angry with myself.

I guess it's all relative.

I think for now it's $500. Anything more and I would stand out too much in my casual environment.

If I needed a bigger bag, I might go higher.

If my job put me in front of people that carried or expected to see higher end bags, I'd probably venture into the premiere designer range. For now, I'm happy with the quality I can get for $500, and I'm not really into the more decorative bags.

I have to agree with what some previous posters were saying, there's a difference between what I can spend and what I feel comfortable spending.

As a part time college student, it was a huge splurge to get myself a Michael Kors Hamilton tote, which came out to around $324 (tax included).

However, my secret dream is to get a Miu Miu bow bag, and those are pretty much $1000 a pop. I'm sort of at war with myself here, I feel so irresponsible for wanting a bag that expensive but it really is so beautiful. I could buy the bag right now, but is it worth it right now when I have two other black leather bags? I have to think about it.

For now, I think my limit will have to stay $500 (although come christmastime I might totally regret posting this), and I'll have to content myself with smaller accessories from the big names like bracelets, wallets, etc. :smile1:

I'm in the same boat, but I'm a full timer. I still have a part time job though, which allows me to save quite a bit since it pays very well.
I knew I was going to buy a nice designer handbag sometime soon, and go on a holiday with friends so I saved up A LOT, and spent a lot of my free time working. (I was determined).

Right now, I would spend max 2k because that's as much as my budget would allow. 3 months ago I would have said 1.5k. It has a lot to do with the bag too though.

I have a longchamp le pliage, and if one day it costs $1000 I would still think about getting it. That this is nearly indestructible, not to mention very versatile. School bags, nappy bag, casual bag, beach bag, work bag... I've spilt drinks all over it a few times. Barely any marks.

My dream is the classic 2.55 Chanel. I would buy it in a heartbeat if I had the money :( maybe ill buyit for myself when I graduate... :P

I don't know. It's relative. I wouldn't spend $5 on a bag I didn't love or have use for, I flat out refuse spend $500-$5000 on some 'premium' brands, but I was ecstatic to put down 5 figures on one, two... in particular. Then I don't see me ever overcompensating on quantity and compromise on quality and long term function.

Most spent on a purse ever: $150 for a Rioni Luxury Tote.

Not tempted by pricier purses at the moment. Some time in the future I might go for a custom made purse - that might prove expensive... But right now I think only a wristlet at the right price or an eel skin purse might tempt me.
