What do H fans think of LV?

Same here. The H mods are way too strict. It turned me off as well. I can't find answers to a lot of questions for H but seeing that the question threads always get closed down I just don't make new threads lol. No point in trying.

My fav has to be Chanel, Dior, and the Celine subforums. LV is fun too!!

Me to! It makes me crazy there isn't A lot of available info on H subforum, many threads containing "info" are very old. It's sad that this forum is supposed to be helpful for people to reach out and get help but i find the H subforum to be difficult.

But back to the topic I still like some LV items I just repurchased a neverfull because it's a great travel bag and carefree bag. And I got it because it works great for me and I could care less if everyone else has one.

I don't get "anxiety attacks" when I buy LV. I tend to use the bags as compliments to Hermes. I've drifted from Chanel. Though the Gabrielle bag does not interest me, I'm wondering if it will bring back excitement to the line for me

LOL I couldn't agree more, about the anxiety attacks and also Chanel. I too have wandered away from Chanel and sold most of my collection (keeping only 2 reissues and 2 WOCs which are probably also going to go soon because I haven't used them in over a year). I don't care for the Gabrielle handbags either, but the shopping tote really got me. I love the combination hardware and it keeps a slender profile when worn cross body. It will (as do my LVs) fulfill a different role in my bag wardrobe than my H bags.

I find the H forum quick to close down new threads if someone has already asked the question even if it was years ago. So I don't do reveals open new threads to ask questions on H anymore, I just go elsewhere when I have a question.

Perhaps the forums are similar to the actual stores. You have to "build up a relationship" in order to post a new thread. :p

I've been reading with great interest this thread... LV was also, for me, my first designer gateway, back when I was a kid. Though I feel that LV was a bit better made then (which was in pre-LVMH days), I still recall some zippers being difficult to operate, the gold color on hardware wearing off way too early, and the edges of my LV monogram wallet starting to fray /wear away too soon. And, while I agree the monogram canvas is virtually indestructible, I always found it disappointing how badly the natural cowhide trim on LV canvas bags would stain, get dirty, and otherwise look tired and soiled (and how hard/impossible it was to fix that, in comparison to H leather spa treatments). I have had a few of my LV bags taken in for spa/re-conditioning- the work back to me varied widely in quality, with many of the jobs not effecting much, if any, change at all, although one toilet kit got a new zipper and came back looking brand new.

As many of you dear friends know, once you go H it is very hard (if not impossible) to find other brands that possess the same quality, workmanship, and material perfection (and wonderful use of color). While I've tried other brands (and love other styles offered by other brands) all of my accessories/SLGs are Hermes and I can feel and see the difference in quality even between these SLGs and other designer bags, so I find myself gravitating back towards the H bag black hole time and time again. That all said, I do like LV shoes, sunglasses (H, when are you going to make sunglasses? You could kill in this market!), some of the pret-a-porter, and some small accessories. I also like a couple backpack and messenger styles, but for me, I generally shop LV for things that represent gaps in the H style universe.

LV was my introduction to designer purses. I coveted my sister's speedy 40, which she ended up giving to me when she got her Neverfull. BUT, for me at least once I went Hermes -- I couldn't go back to anything. H has ruined all other designers for me, but I'm completely fine with that! Haha.

I have sold many and am in the process of selling all of my LV bags. I'm so over all of the prints, they are everywhere and I'm tired of looking at them. Sure, they are indestructible, but so is my Longchamp. The only LVs I like looking at are the Capucines, Sofia Coppola, Lockit, or other models that highlight the leather and craftsmanship and not the logo. But I would never buy them, because I know I'd end up selling them in a short time because H has my heart.:heart::heart:

I feel at home in both LV and H forums --they're different, but both helpful. If you will allow an analogy, I see the LV forum as a garden left to naturally grow with new threads sprouting all over the place. Some new threads get tended to and flourish; others, not. While the H forum is like a collection of old bonsai trees, strictly observed, clipped, and lovingly allowed to grow in a disciplined way. But both forums bring a wealth of information and camaraderie from their passionate members.

LV remains my bag of choice. Easy to use, light, and works for my needs. My darling H SAs have been offering me their coveted bags but I am not yet ready to let go of my Speedys and Neverfulls. And in the cosmopolitan city I live in, people know what's a B/K/C and carrying LV actually allows me to blend in -- it does not say "look-at-me" like H does (I know, it's extremely ironic!!). I enjoy my LV slgs. I think LV makes the best pochettes - mini, cosmetic and pochettes accessoire. But I go to H for agendas, shoes, and gorgeous scarves. In my experience, both LV and H offer an excellent, professional, and warm in-boutique service and after-sales care. My SAs are delightful women! When possible, we should bear in mind that it's really worth it to cultivate relationships with SAs in both LV and H so one's style, preferences and wishlists are taken into account and shopping is always a pleasure.

I LOVE your analogy and it's totally on point.

But who says you have to let LV go? Why can't they coexist happily. I'm so confused by this notion some people have that you have to "move on" from one brand to the other.

I love my six speedies and four soon to be five Neverfulls and dozen other LV bags and SLGs. Yeah I know I said no more bags but I need something from the new Tahitiennes line. I also love my Bs and look forward to adding to my Hermes collection. I have no plans to get rid of my LVs as they are the perfect grab and go bags with a delightful whimsical pop of color as most of mine are LE

Again buy and carry what you love, it's really not that serious. :)

I know you didn't mean me specifically, but yes, I see how people would want to "move on" especially if their previous purse collection was sizeable and they either need more space or funds for the new brand they love. My purse collection is modest to average by TPF standards and of course it can take in a B/K or 2 :graucho: -- hmm, I see what you did there! :hugs:

Lol! I absolutely get "pruning" a bag collection to fit current needs and lifestyle. However, I find that most threads like this (in all of the forums) speak in terms of getting rid of all bags of one designer in favor of another (more prestigious/exclusive/expensive) designer. It's like some are adhering to some rule that prevents them from cross-pollinating their collection.

While I certainly don't believe one should get rid of all designer bags when they find a new brand it's extremely hard for me to justify a new handbag in the 3k-7k range from any brand after handling and using H bags.

I personally don't find LV or Chanel leather bags to be worth their current price point especially when compared to H leather and construction.

I did recently buy two pieces from Givenchy in Europe and love them at the friendlier price but would only buy in the US on sale. I think most LV canvas bags are an ok price but some are creeping into a price that's hard to justify for canvas with a little leather trim. I think Chanel bags are over priced for their styles and production issues and would only consider them at pre loved prices but classic flaps aren't my style anyway.

I only own a few LV coated canvas & an Epi Pochette. It may appear tasteless but I do not take the line seriously & that is what it's beauty is to me. The bags I own have a style and durability for situations I would never expose my Hermes to. It drops on the floor by accident...ok. It rains...I'll take my LV, etc
The monogram does not bother me anymore (it did at one time). I abandoned LV for Chanel which to me is very ostentatious outside of the Reissue & certain other styles.
As for quality, neither beat Hermes. I keep taking out my Chanel's to wear. They appear "cheap" compared to Hermes. Many are lower in price but by no way inexpensive
I sold a fair number of Chanel's to fund Hermes (somehow never enough $ to make the acquisition equal[emoji57]) & am at a pause in case I decide to go back. Again, every time I take one out, it does not compare to the understatement (exception the Constance) & quality of Hermes. I'm ok with LV. It is the perfect compliment to Hermes for the reasons I described

I appreciate your views, ladies.

First, my apologies to @JazzyMac for not just addressing my thoughts on the tpf H and LV forums in reply to her post. :flowers: I should have made a separate post to share my musings on LV and H products and services as a response to OP.

@scndlslv I hope you like your LV Tahitiennes! I have quads of Speedys and NFs (similar to you). When I said, I can't think to let go of LV, I meant my LVs really suit me and I'm not in a hurry to add H leather bags to my collection. Quite obviously the decision to get a B/K should not arise from the subtle prompting of an SA, however sweet she may be. :amuse:

@MrsOwen3 I would also find it difficult to justify spending 3k-7k for just any leather bag, so yes, I completely understand the siren call of H. I've not explored this territory though!

@Keren16 I agree with you, LV is hard-wearing, durable and has its own fun style. As brands, LV is the perfect complement to H for me, too. I've not looked at Chanel, Givenchy, Dior, etc. Just LV and H -- it was the scarves that drew me in!!

+1- I agree with all of this MrsOwen!
