What do H fans think of LV?

I don't think you "did bad" by buying an LV, if you love the Capucines and will use it. If, on the other hand, you bought it out of frustration, you'll probably end up wishing you had saved the funds toward the B.

IMO the Capucines and the Birkin are completely different bags. The Birkin is a tote and is pretty casual, especially in the 35 size. It is hand/arm carry only, no shoulder carry option. If I were to compare the Capucines to an H bag, I'd say it is more like the Kelly, design-wise, with its flap, one handle and shoulder strap. I like the Capucines but decided not to buy one for two reasons: the flap does not attach securely to the front of the bag, and it is HEAVY. If it works for you as a going-out-to-dinner bag and that's what you need right now, then keep it.

As far as getting the Birkin, all I can say is don't let one experience with an SA who lacks knowledge deter you. Keep going back and talk to different SA's, or try a different store. It does help to build a relationship, especially if there are other H products that interest you. But if all you want is the Birkin, then maybe save up and go through a reseller.
Yes, your comparisons are on point. Yeah I would compare it to the Kelly as well, but I am more into the birkin. Now, if it was BTW the capucines and Kelly I would go for the capucines. The Kelly for me is too formal. However, as far as totes go right now I can still enjoy my Chanel GST in caviar, but as you know when you get to the point where you want a birkin it just starts to nag you all the time! But, I think I have to start letting go and maybe it is not my time right now for the birkin. Convince myself that the capucines mm will do me good. It is a beautiful bag and it is different than the birkin in style.

I think LV is a classic brand and they have some great designs (I've never had a Speedy or Neverfull in my collection) that I love. I bought my python Artsy some years ago and I found two pairs of ballerinas to match my bag last year together with some rtw. Inherited my Capucines, a new LV classic, from dear Mom. The bag is simply too heavy for her. The recent designs have not been interesting, too modern or too much hw. I find presents for other people at LV, including my both nieces, but personally I enjoy more other brands. The new cabin trolley is interesting, so I might get it, but at the moment I'm enjoying my lightweight carefree Rimowas.

Get the Speedy if you need it. A Birkin/Kelly bag is something a serious purselover starts to crave at some point. Don't let a single SA spoil it for you, save the money and pursue your dream.
Thanks, I will keep the birkin in goal for a later purchase.

I have a few H accessories that I really enjoy using, but up to now no handbag of theirs ticked off all the boxes (practicality, weight, safety, size, inner distribution, versatility, and durability/ease of care in a rough climate) as my Mulberry and LV bags and wallets did. So B, K, L, Evelyn, etc left me indifferent, also because there are so many of these preloved in the many secondhand boutiques here in Vienna, just walk in and choose, no SA games nonsense.

Then I saw the Trim II, Rouge H, GHW, and it ticked off all the right boxes: typically, it´s no longer made! Mine´s 15 years young, preloved, authenticated, and bought for a song. I´m H happy now, with no H wishes left (OK, I´ll jump at a Citrouilles et Coloquintes scarf). If anything, I´d consider another Trim II in a more "summery" colour. But in general, LV does it for me now, and I also love the variety and updating of their offerings, whereas H sticks to a dearth of models, so you usually have to compromise. And for that price, I want exactly what I want, he he.
Yeah, I agree I went to the Hermès boutique twice and search the Internet and this forum. And honestly, I really only likes the evelyene pm, which I bought that day with the lv capucines and the birkin. I am not into the accessories now or scarves, we'll at least not now. Thanks, for your cool input.

My Chanel bags are sitting in my closet now. I'm taking a break. They don't excite me like they did.
I'm finding LV pleasant currently as a compliment to my Hermes. I think the styles are creative and I enjoy rediscovering the brand's history. I only have a few of their bags. I have no quality issues with them. LV was my first luxury brand before Chanel.
Hermes is a totally different league for me. Even compared to Chanel. I have two Kelly's. My box leather is dressier therefore I save it for formal evenings. My Chèvre is more casual and gets a lot of daytime wear. I find Kelly's use vary with the size, leather, & color. The addition of a strap gives the Kelly a lot of versatility.
I want to buy another Kelly or a Birkin (I do not own one yet). My reservation about a Birkin is the lack of a strap. If I buy one, I want a 30. It is the right size for my body frame & can go from day to night.
I love my Hermes collection. To be honest, I always am careful wearing them, even my Evelyn. I find my LV's comfortable and enjoyable with no anxiety attached.
I have a good opinion of LV. To me, they are an underrated brand. There is a lot of variety to fit one's use

I love that so many H ladies also use LV at times!
I started out in my 20's with vintage Coach. Soon I realized I don't want to have bags like everyone else. In my 30's I added Kate Spade to the mix, a LV Mono petit bucket, a Chanel quilted tote, Herbag TPM and MM. Mid 30's when I had kids, the LV Neverfull Mono GM was the best tote and diaper bag, ever. Still is, although I wish the straps were wider/comfortable. I love totes so the Kate Spade Saffiano bags are practical and comfortable for me, I don't think I will get rid of the two I have (unless I replace them with H GP's). Most recently, I am getting back to H and thinning my herd of bags. We all go through changes in taste and function ... I used to use small bags, now I like bigger totes.
Last month flying into West Palm Beach, I found myself surrounded by LV Mono NF's ... they were everywhere. Even my kids noticed... "Mommy, they have the same bag as you", over and over, LOL. It was a little shocking to me as I live about 50 miles north/west of Boston and they aren't as common. I did see two Birkins at the airport but I also admired the Goyard St Louis GM in the plane seat in front of me. For a second I thought I should sell my LVs for a St Louis... they are less recognizable ... and I kind of like that.

LV was my first real luxury brand and I have a few very special memories about my first purchases from LV. My first wallet and bag I wore down after 10 years and I still have them wrapped up and put away! :-) I have a speedy in Damier Ebene with a strap that I only use when it rains, and a matching wallet. I like the heartiness of the canvas very much. I also have had an LV evening bag in black epi leather for 15 years and it still looks new! I still use it when I need a really small bag. So I think their bags are great value and can last a long time and look great. (Also I had to look up all the names of those leathers because I have really checked out from that brand).

I actually get two really distinct reactions from others re LV bags: people either seem to think the brand is too devalued and say they got rid of all their LVs and wouldn't be caught with one because too many people have one, or else think it's a super show offy obnoxious brand (which I don't understand). I don't always like wearing recognizable bags (epi leather is not recognizable but damier ebene really is) so I use the epi bag because I like it and I use the speedy because I can be hard on it and nothing happens to it and I don't want to wreck my other bags!

I had quality problems with the speedy I bought 4 years ago (the hardware). Because of the quality issues I probably won't give them business again for a long, long while. Nothing can compete with H! ;-)

A bit late to this party...

I personally wouldnt carry LV because it is so ubiquitous. But I dont think its a show-offy or obnoxious brand..they have many beautiful designs and I love their luggages...but I just wouldnt go for them because they are so common.

Interestingly, in the area I live in in Seoul, Hermes has become almost as, if not more, common than LV, but its still Hermes. The quality remains unparalleled and it isnt quite associated with the mad rush a few decades ago to buy designer goods plastered with logos just for the sake of it, which is an unfortunate thing that happened to LV.

Personally I also want a low maintenance higher end bag for travel, and Im pretty sure Im going to go for Goyard. They make lovely canvas totes.

I see a few women with designer bags as clients at my place of work. Some wear different brands at different occasions- Hermes, Chanel, LV, Celine....All are of course beautiful! I do however feel that LV has a youthful look, in a good way.. not teenager-ish or inappropriate looking, but in a carefree , fun way!
I think that LV is still appealing and still has a place in my wardrobe!

LV is hands down very stylish and is unique. They have from sporty casual to classy bags for all types of occasions. I, was dreaming of the birkin, but it might have been just all the hype. I instead that day went to Hermès bought and evelyene gm in etain and then went to LV and bought the lv capucines mm in noir and I have to say when I now look at the birkin I am not that fascinated that much. Maybe, cause I spent so much money in one day on two bags, but still right now I am very content in not having a birkin or kelly.

My original comment in this thread was more neutral along the nice side, but now I'm in a bit of disbelief the amount of posters here who feel that LV is the one that's "brand-embellished"! :amazed: There are threads upon threads, articles, and books, about how to score the elusive Birkin and Kelly (B & K). Do you really perceive that LV owners act smug and conceited? Have you read their minds? If that's the case, how do you think you're perceived when carrying your Birkin? Only my opinion. In three different threads in as many weeks, I've asked a question or made a comment, and been completely ignored. It definitely doesn't happen in the LV thread. So, take it as you will. Another thing...while I love all things purses and bags, I still haven't gotten a B or K because of the fact that I don't want to walk around with a huge Hermes imprint on my head. :yucky: No matter how many LV bags you see around, there's intimacy in numbers.

I responded to you in one of those threads :)
I think some threads in the H subforum tend to stay more "on topic" or maybe get less traffic, I don't think anyone is trying to be unfriendly. I'm in H forums constantly and sometimes I post a question and never get a response, usually it just means that my post was not noticed or that no one knew the answer to my question.

you're in disbelief that people in the Hermes forum prefer H to LV? really?

a lot of threads don't get views, questions that have been answered earlier in the thread tend to get passed over, the H forum is one of the busiest and not everyone gets likes or replies. Each forum has its own style.

I don't have any ideas about LV beyond the fact that it's very recognizable due to the pattern of many of the pieces whereas if I turn my H bags hardware towards my body no one knows what i'm carrying. The only time i would have an H on my head is if i'm wearing one of my scarves up there. Outside of tPF and the fashion world very few people can ID an H bag, that is not the case for LV. It's not a statement of brand embellishment, it's ubiquity. H is not as scarce as the brand would like to be perceived but LV doesn't operate the same way as H, at all.
