What do H fans think of LV?

Duna, am I remembering correctly that you had another all Vachetta LV at one point? I'm remembering a photo from way back when I joined tpf, so my memory may be wrong. Congrats on your Petit Noe!

My long time SA is retiring as well, and she's told me that things are so different now, both with store policies and behavior of fellow coworkers (and not in a good way). I have a backup SA in another store, but I'm no longer trying to acquire Birkins or Kellys from the boutique so fortunately, I don't have to test any store policies.

You're absolutely right, good memory, I also have a total Vacchetta Alma which I bought from LV when they were still available....must be around 20 years ago!
I'll take pics of both together and post them.

That would be nice to see! I had purchased my VN Kelly around the same time that I saw the photo of your Alma on tpf, so it stayed in my memory.

I just won a few days ago an ebay auction for a total Vacchetta Petit Noé, in great condition and payed next to nothing! I have wanted one for the longest time, and since LV doesn't make it anymore, I have been stalking the secondary market for one. They don't turn up often and if they do they're in poor condition, so I'm super happy to have finally found one.

I have been thinking to myself recently that I'm falling a bit out of love with H....unfortunately my SM, whom I have know for over 20 years has retired, and things have drastically changed at my H store. They are much more strict with all the rules, like the 2 bags per year idiocy. If I want to spend thousands per year on H bags and have been a loyal customer for decades, being allowed to only buy 2 bags per year is just b***s**t !!!

So I'm starting to go back to other brands, like LV, which I had totally discarded for years. I have to say that I ONLY like the classic styles LV like Alma, Noé, Speedy ecc.....Also some of the limited editions like the Sofia Coppola or the soft Lockit. Sorry for the rant, but I'm pretty angry with my H store ATM!

Duna, I'm sorry to hear you're upset with your store. I can't imagine how I'd feel if my SA ever left -- it's a very welcoming store, but I can't imagine buying as much if my SA wasn't there. The quotas don't affect me as I don't have the budget for a brand new B and K every year, but the whole scarcity-as-marketing-tactic can get old sometimes. I can't imagine completely falling out of love with H, but I have developed a new appreciation for LV, and part of that appreciation is that the buying experience is just so easy. Unless you're looking for a very limited edition or discontinued item, you should be able to get it, and if there is a wait, it's a day or two, not a year. It allows me to take my time deciding, so when I do buy, I'm more certain I've made the right choice. It's less pressured and I'm finding I really like that aspect.

I just started my obsession of wanting the Hermès birkin my dream bag would be the B35 togo in raisin with palladium hardware :) sigh! So, I went into the boutique and they were friendly and I asked if i can see the swatches for the togo in raisin because I never really saw a real birkin only via this forum and internet. She did ask what bag your interested in and I smiled and they knew! So, the SA pulls out like two swatch books and couldn't find the raisin swatch, meanwhile the whole time there was a bag on display that had the color with the palladium hardware in clemence. I had to point it out to her?? She brought it down and she was like oh yes this is raisin. I got bothered. So, I said forget this. I, then started asking about the evelyne the large size. I loved the look and feel and took it in etain. Then honestly, I left and went over to LV and bought the capucines mm in black and gold hardware! Right, now I am satisfied. But, I did ask her if I can make an order she said no orders, but I can take down your information in case one comes in, but she did mention the combination I wanted is a bit hard and that she has not seen it in a while in the birkin. So, my dear women do you think I did bad with buying the lv and not holding off for the birkin, I mean saving my money (even for a pretty loved) but, I do love LV. Now, at least I can say I have a Hermès and the capucines is a lovely bag so low key. Any thoughts. Thanks.

I would have held out for the Birkin. Was the capucines an impulse purchase or have you been lusting for one?

My HG Hermes bag was the same as yours but with GHW I got it in Paris in December of 2015. I've been pretty disappointed with LVs bags lately so after purchasing the Racing Neverfull in November I think I'm done and happy with my current LV collection. I still prefer their SLGs and scarves and will continue to buy those. But regarding bags I won't spend $4-5k on LV when I can put that towards a Birkin.

Yeah, thanks for the input and advice. I still have a few more days to think about it before I can't return the LV! It was kind of an impulse buy...but, I do need a classy bag for going out my bags are casual dressy for the most part (Chanel boy vintage brown with SHW, LV Mahina xl in Sandy, LV Alma black Takashimi design, LV delightful GM, python Gucci Jackie, gucci tote, gucci with studs and fringes, and one Jimmy choo python as well). And I do like the lv capucine style and the leather in and out. I did buy the evelyene as well that day to get my feet wet with Hermès, I love it . I think of the birkin style and I sigh and say I don't think I will ever get offered one and no plans to go to Paris where they say there are better chances! An awesome congrats on your B and hope you r enjoying it.

Depending on your lifestyle, Birkin which is my dream bag can be more of a work bag depending on size so if you are looking for classy dinner bag, I would say Capucines, so pretty and like you said under the radar. I think it looks weird when people carry a Chanel jumbo to a wedding, which is a nice bag but wrong for the occasion. I don't know why but Birkin to me is more casual, I put it in the classy category but more everyday size like Chanel Jumbo, IMO, hope that helps.

As long as you're happy with the capucines and will use it then it's a good buy. It is a gorgeous and well made bag.

I don't think you "did bad" by buying an LV, if you love the Capucines and will use it. If, on the other hand, you bought it out of frustration, you'll probably end up wishing you had saved the funds toward the B.

IMO the Capucines and the Birkin are completely different bags. The Birkin is a tote and is pretty casual, especially in the 35 size. It is hand/arm carry only, no shoulder carry option. If I were to compare the Capucines to an H bag, I'd say it is more like the Kelly, design-wise, with its flap, one handle and shoulder strap. I like the Capucines but decided not to buy one for two reasons: the flap does not attach securely to the front of the bag, and it is HEAVY. If it works for you as a going-out-to-dinner bag and that's what you need right now, then keep it.

As far as getting the Birkin, all I can say is don't let one experience with an SA who lacks knowledge deter you. Keep going back and talk to different SA's, or try a different store. It does help to build a relationship, especially if there are other H products that interest you. But if all you want is the Birkin, then maybe save up and go through a reseller.

I think LV is a classic brand and they have some great designs (I've never had a Speedy or Neverfull in my collection) that I love. I bought my python Artsy some years ago and I found two pairs of ballerinas to match my bag last year together with some rtw. Inherited my Capucines, a new LV classic, from dear Mom. The bag is simply too heavy for her. The recent designs have not been interesting, too modern or too much hw. I find presents for other people at LV, including my both nieces, but personally I enjoy more other brands. The new cabin trolley is interesting, so I might get it, but at the moment I'm enjoying my lightweight carefree Rimowas.

Get the Speedy if you need it. A Birkin/Kelly bag is something a serious purselover starts to crave at some point. Don't let a single SA spoil it for you, save the money and pursue your dream.

I have a few H accessories that I really enjoy using, but up to now no handbag of theirs ticked off all the boxes (practicality, weight, safety, size, inner distribution, versatility, and durability/ease of care in a rough climate) as my Mulberry and LV bags and wallets did. So B, K, L, Evelyn, etc left me indifferent, also because there are so many of these preloved in the many secondhand boutiques here in Vienna, just walk in and choose, no SA games nonsense.

Then I saw the Trim II, Rouge H, GHW, and it ticked off all the right boxes: typically, it´s no longer made! Mine´s 15 years young, preloved, authenticated, and bought for a song. I´m H happy now, with no H wishes left (OK, I´ll jump at a Citrouilles et Coloquintes scarf). If anything, I´d consider another Trim II in a more "summery" colour. But in general, LV does it for me now, and I also love the variety and updating of their offerings, whereas H sticks to a dearth of models, so you usually have to compromise. And for that price, I want exactly what I want, he he.

Thanks for your insight! That is so true about the Chanel jumbo! Lol. I don't like that either. That is why even though I have nice designer bags I will not were any of them to an evening occasion, they just don't match and I found the capucines does both day and evening so well.
