What do H fans think of LV?

Thank you, I was shocked to research the company after I purchased my bag. I loved the bag which is why I bought it and then discovered it was made by a high end couture house out of Italy whose specialty is their unique paisley prints.....and yes, they are known for scarves but also clothing, bags, etc.
I have several Etro dresses and I love them. I absolutely love your bag.

Glad you still like and use your Neverfulls! I feel like I went pretty directly from contemporary brands to Bal and Chanel to H, and now I'm sort of circling back to LV, strange as that probably sounds. I don't think I'll end up buying a lot of LV, but I do love the Speedy and can see myself ending up with more than one!

Do you think some of the excitement for LV is NG?
I think he brought energy to the line in a tasteful modern expression
I always felt I transitioned from LV to Chanel to Hermes for my changing habits due to maturing (age)[emoji6]
Like you, I am more discretionary with my LV purchases. There is still some room for them & I like the lines current direction

Hi megt10 - I find the LV leather to be heavier than the canvas - and it's noticeable. I can definitely tell a difference when I switch from canvas to my taurillon leather bags (Capucines, Sofia Coppola, etc.). I think empreinte leather is not as heavy as the taurillon leather bags.

Your NF is definitely a wonderful bag -- super light with large capacity - glad to hear that you've found it so useful. I would't trade my NFs for anything - it's the one LV bag style I have not downsized to make room for H. If weight is an issue, you may want to stick with LV canvas. Hope this helps! (BTW - you have an amazing H collection!!)
Thank you so much. I have tried the leather bags on but did find them heavier than I wanted to carry. For me the canvas bags fill a void in my collection for sure. Sometimes I need to carry a lot but can't do it if the bag is heavy as well. I had heard that the straps of the NF were not comfortable. I have never had a problem with them. I agree. I have downsized my collection of bags but 75% but this one stays. I will check out the empreinte leather. I'm not a huge logo fan either but I don't seem to notice it so much because of the print on my bag. That's really what I notice.

The Empreinte leather is heavier than canvas, but I find my Empreinte 25 pretty light. The joy of the 25 is that it feels small, but fits a surprising amount. Jpezmom is right, the Sofia Coppola is definitely heavier -- I think the leather itself is thicker, plus the SC has a suede lining where the Empreinte bags have cloth lining. The new model Empreinte Speedy also doesn't have feet, which lightens the load from the previous model.

Basically, I think the Empreinte Speedy is pretty light for a leather bag, but I'm still thinking of getting a canvas one for the ultimate lightweight, carefree carrying experience!
I want to check it out. I love the look of the Speedy and tried it on in the canvas but it felt like it stuck out too far. The leather one looks like it molds to you and is very flattering on.

Yes, for me I started looking when NG came on board. Prior to that I didn't pay much attention.

For me, it's partly NG but also, I loved the Speedy for years, way before I even knew what Hermes was. I didn't buy one because of the lack of a shoulder strap. (Even then, I knew handheld-only bags were not for me.) By the time LV came out with the Speedy B in 2011, I felt like the logo was everywhere plus I was starting to really get into H. Fast forward to maybe a year ago, when some of the LV leather bags (specifically the SC and the Soft Lockit) started to catch my eye, but .... I didn't want to spend close-to-H prices on another leather bag, especially one that a lot of posters said was heavy. The practicality of the Speedy B, the addition of NG (who I loved at Bal), and the fact that I have all the H bags I need right now -- I mean, of COURSE I will want more , just not right now -- are coming together to make me consider LV in a way I hadn't before. I guess I'm at a point where adding a Speedy, which is something different, makes more sense than buying another Evelyne or GP or Kelly. The more carefree nature and user-friendly style, not to mention the lower price point, is really appealing right now.

Thanks for your perspective -- your words really resonated with me. Yes, H is discrete, but so iconic you never know who will recognize what -- like the time I was holiday shopping for my sister in the Coach store and the male SA recognized my Garden Party, of all bags, as being Hermes. So, how much am I fooling myself, thinking I'm being understated while carrying H? Like you, I love H and Chanel, and have to say that although I love seeing all kinds of Chanel bags on others, the Reissues are pretty much "it" for me. Perhaps LV will be the same -- that really, there is one bag style from them that I really love, the Speedy.
I am glad that I could help! I love the speedy too! it is one of the most timeless, age-less and iconic bags ever.

I also went from contemporary to Chanel and H and am just now circling back to LV. The only LV I had for many years is a mono keepall. Your speedy is my sac plat. I only have 1 lv bag which I bought last year which is the sac plat. I absolutely love the shape of it. I have several mono slg's which go everywhere with me. Would buy other sac plats in epi if the color worked.

IMHO, LV makes nice bags at more affordable price than H. The marketing strategies for the two companies are different. What makes H special is not only their fine leather and craftsmanship but also it's limited availability. On the other hand LV is abundant. I have never been in a situation where I could not find a bag I want in LV store. LV appeals to wide range of customers as opposed to H.

If I were to present a nice LV bag and a nice H bag to a group of people who has no idea about the two brands and have them choose one they like, I don't think it will be skewed to one side. They both make nice bags although I think H quality is better.

Hi,

As this is coming from a guy who likes both Hermès and Louis Vuitton (and quite a couple of other brands) please take this statement with a grain of salt.

I have quite a couple of accessories, ties, pocket squares and cufflinks from Hermès that I love, and I do frequently check the website and the boutique(s). Still, I have yet to come across a bag that I like, and that fits my needs and taste. I was an Louis Vuitton customer before I came to Hermès, I bought quite a couple of bags and accessories from them (LV) and recently sold all items I wouldn't use that much and even some I had never really used at all. I'm pretty sure some can relate to this, I call it the "finding phase". When you're new to this, you haven't found your "signature style" yet and almost everything excites you and you buy a lot on impulse, rather than because you really want/need it or have an immediate use for it.

I think through the way Hermès "operates", it slows you down. You get more time to think about your purchases because not everything is readily available everywhere. That's probably why I still got everything I ever purchased from Hermès (admitted, not counting one bow tie and shoes that didn't fit anymore, but that's a different story...) but have sold quite a bit of my Louis Vuitton stuff.

To me, Hermès to its full extent is more of a whole lifestyle closely linked to enjoying the "finer things" than just a single item, whereas Louis Vuitton is inseparable linked to stylish but rugged luggage and accessories that can take a beating. Of course thats just me.

I think both brands can easily appeal to the same customers, albeit for different reasons/uses/tasks.

Kind regards,
Oliver

Hey Catsinthebag, are you loving your speedy?

I am! I've worn it almost every day since I got it over a month ago, which NEVER happens with me! I know there's no such thing as a perfect bag, but this one may come close. It's the perfect size for most days, and a very sturdy, durable little bag. I love the outside pocket and the cross-body strap. Looks-wise, it can go everywhere I go, from hockey games to running errands to dinners out. I did get mad when I got caught in the rain with it (the bag was fine, but it wasn't an experience I'm eager to repeat) so today, I bought a Totally PM in Damier Ebene. I realized the only bad-weather bags I have are Longchamp, so decided to get something a little more high-end. That should do it for a while! I'm sure I'll go back to my H bags eventually, but this little Speedy just works so well! I knew I would like it but wasn't prepared for just how much I LOVE it!

"Abundant" is a good way to put it. I decided I wanted a canvas bag that zipped shut, went in and tried on the Speedy B 25 and 30 in both mono and DE, the Turenne in two sizes, the Sienna in two sizes, and the Totally MM and PM. Also tried a Neverfull for good measure! I cannot imagine having that kind of experience trying on bags at H. Not that it's better or worse, just a very different type of experience. I like having both options in my life!
