I returned the NM anniversary bag today, partly because i didn't like the extra weight of the GH (I just don't think I'm a GH girl overall, for that matter.) I've seen a few other people comment on the extra weight too, so I meant to weigh the NM bag and my RH City. However, I forgot to do so before I took the bag back!

I was wondering if anyone else has a kitchen scale or a digital scale of some sort and might be able to post the info for everyone. TIA!!

Oh great idea kimber!! Yes, please if anyone has a scale they can use, and a GH City and RH City, I would love to know the difference. I've never heard of the leather being thicker on the giant bags before. Mmmm, very interesting!

I found that the '07 city with GH was extremely heavy for that particular bag. Mostly because the leather is much much thicker and of course the GH adds some. A city should be feather light!

I don't notice it so much on my day, with GH it is still very light.

On the work, I like the thicker leather and I guess I expect it to be heavier so I like the feel of GH work better than RH.

Accessories (if I could ever find a makeup clutch/shoulder) would definately want RH.

I don't have the NM LE bag but I did buy a GH hobo... and I do not think the GH adds too much weight. I have also held other GH bags at NM and there is little difference between the GH and RH. The GH is not one solid piece of metal... it is shaped like a thimble which is not heavy IMO.

I have had the GH and RH city and the GH city that I own is heavier and the leather is thicker but the handles on the GH city is a bit bigger and makes this so easy to carry and you really don't even notice the difference in the weight... HONESTLY! I love both RH and GH but as far as the one that is the most comfortable to carry on the shoulder I would have to say the GH city because of the bigger/thicker handles.

I totally agree... they probably made the handles thicker to help with the added weight as well. But once it's over your shoulder you hardly even notice the weight. However, if it stays on the crook of your arm... it might get a lil numb... :smile1:

I have lots of City bags, some new, some '05 & '06. When I got a City with GH, I knew as soon as I took it out of the box it was going back. Not only did I feel the hardware dwarfed the bag, it was incredibly heavier. The Giant Hobo is an exception. It's a very light bag so the GH doesn't seem to make it heavy. If they made the Giant Hobo with regular hardware, it would be fabulous. It would weigh next to nothing.
That's one thing I like about these bags, is they are so lighweight. The older bags are lighter than the newer ones and some new ones are heavier than others. F/W '06 seemed to have a lot of really thick, but heavier bags. I sold my caramel because of that. The bag and leather were TDF but the added weight,:tdown: everytime I took it out to use it, I put it back and chose another. I finally found a gorgeous '05 and sold my '06. My perfect caramel hunt is over.
I don't understand why they can't make the bags like they did in '05 where the bag is so light, yet the leather is soft and smooshy.
That GH on thicker leather = heavier, period.

okay yall...i tried to do my own little experiment! lol :) i have a pretty nice scale that is supposed to be very accurate...while it is not a kitchen scale, it might help give a little frame of reference...

i weighed myself alone and then with each respective bbag...these are the difference in the weights (i may weigh all of my other ones later! haha):

Giant Plomb partime: 2.8 lbs.
06 RH partime: 1.4 lbs.
07 Giant Ocean work: 2.2 lbs.
07 Tomato city: 1.2 lbs.
05 Caramel city: 1 lb.

i weighed each one randomly three times and thought that i would get some variation between the three weights for each bag...i actually didnt...each weight was the exact same everytime--i am sure its not totally accurate but it is interesting! the plomb partime weighs more than my giant work!!! and powderpuff, you are right--my 05 city weighs less than my 07 city! anyways, my DH now thinks that i am crazy because he walked in when i was weighing myself with my bbags -- i thought that he was going to die he was laughing so hard! :)

gOOd Grief... my sister wasn't kidding about the GH Part time being super heavy.. it's almost 3lbs!!! hMmm... I may have to think my next purchase through. Thanks Kates for sharing!

thanks for the weighing experiment... I'm very curious to see how different the GSH brief I'm getting this week is..... I do think the double stitched handles look great but I'm not sure how much I'll like the extra weight!

Kates, thank you so much! That's exactly what I was hoping for. Now we have an objective list of the weights. And extra thanks for putting up with the teasing I'm sure you got. My DH would also have thought I was a nutter if I were weighing my bags.
