Hello all! I'm brand new here and not sure exactly where to post my questions/concerns. I am a new Coach enthusiast and have been selling on Ebay for a couple years. Most recently, selling mostly purses. I do my very best to authenticate anything I list though was recently reported for selling an apparent fake. I have been scouring the internet for more information. So far I have only found one place that declares that any bag with a creed beginning
"J8P...." and says it's made in the USA is definitely a fake. Is this true? Like I said, I've only seen it stated (and restated, from the same source,) in one place. It's a heavy duty, orange, older leather bag. I thank you in advance for any suggestions, thougths, opinions.

It's been at least a year since I've been on this thread and was heavily into how to authenticate (what to look for), but I want to say this is indeed the case. I think P was the Costa Rica plant. Hyacinth, whateve or someone else probably should jump in here and verify though since it's been so long for me.

Definitely fake. The P plant was only used for Costa Rica. The font is wrong as well. I bet there are other problems with that bag. The orange color is a red flag as that style was never made in odd colors. We don't recommend self-authentication since there are a lot of nuances that require an experienced eye to spot. We will authenticate for you on the AT thread in the Shopping sub-forum. Just don't post a link to your listing.

Just to prove our point - the 3 genuine Coaches in these photos have the same exact serial prefixes but they're all made in Costa Rica in the same exact month and year your counterfeit Patricia's Legacy was supposedly made. Several of them even have outlet stamps, which although they CAN be faked or unknowingly stamped by the outlet on fakes, most of the time are a pretty good clue that the bag is probably genuine.

As Whateve suggested, please feel free to post any authentication requests before you list a Coach bag at the Authenticate This Coach thread in the Coach Shopping forum.

Latest $3 charm for a vintage Coach -- found a brass and mother of pearl Coldwater Creek medallion at the thrift store; used the leather thongs that formed the necklace to make the tassel and fasten the whole thing to the bag. Flash does not do justice to the nice colors in the shells.

I just read the purseblog feature on bag-shoe combos for fall, each costing more than I normally spend on a car. I propose a game: we pair our vintage/classic coaches with shoes or boots for fall, posting the photos here, to show how normal gals do it. I will go first: This is my Coach 65th anno Whiskey vachetta Alli with my Frye 150th anno Whiskey distressed leather Campus boots. Cost; $150 for the boots (new, on sale) $50 for the bag (thrifted). Touche!

Nice! Here's mine. NYC Companion Bag ($28 on eBay; rehabbed) with K-Mart Route 66 brown leather flats ($25 bought new several years ago).

Wow! That rehab went great. My companion bag looks peaky by comparison. But here it is, a thrifted find ($30), with a pair of Naturalizer pumps bought at Macy's 5 years ago ($30).

And because we take our vintage Coaches out at night, here is a mid-1990s Watson (thrifted $10) with the Frye Harness boots I wear with it to concerts ($150, Macy's 2 years ago).

You're in luck! It's available on Amazon (probably on eBay too but I haven't looked).

The book is really a photo essay on the Coach factory in the late 1970s, showing the culturally diverse workers making the leathergoods. The photos are in black and white and emphasize the hands and faces of the workers. It is a tribute to them...their dedication, skill, and work ethic, and is an enjoyable portrait of a bygone era in Coach history. It's fun to recognize the familiar styles of vintage handbags being assembled.

I was checking you link out to the book.....and found this......

my birthday is 2 weeks after the release date...I know what I'm asking for...lol:p
