Does anyone have an opinion on alterations of a bag? I just bought a red Madison Chapin that looks to be in lovely condition except its strap was shortened to a 16" drop on the last hole (my beechnut Chapin had a strap drop of 23" on the last hole, in comparison). I decided I can live with it because of the rare color, otherwise good condition, and low price. I'm not asking for an opinion on monetary value, because I'm not going to resell it, I'm just curious if anyone has strong feelings on this.

I've never found any either! When my outlet had been open for less than a month, I asked for a hangtag. They brought out a box that must have had over 100 hangtags. I asked if Coach had given them a starter set of hangtags when they opened up. The SA said, no, all those hangtags had been collected off the floor since they had opened, just from the items in the store.
I have noticed items with removed hang tags. Why would they do that?

WOW! The bags are all gorgeous!! No wonder some of you are trying so hard to behave. I confess that I am still being a bit bad BUT the "must have" list is growing shorter - I think! Here is my latest acquisition. I was trying hard but just couldn't resist.

Very nice, I have 1 in a different color. I love this purse. I was wondering if I could post pics of my favorites here? I've been trying to be a good girl, but there is 1 style on my list that I just can't get off of my mind.

Yep, this is definitely the place to post pics of vintage pieces. Show us your favorites! :smile1:

I agree.

On a related note... I'm always wondering why I never find any of the many missing hangtags on the street like finding an occasional penny. Actually, I did find one once on an airplane, then I realized it was from MY purse. :P

I work at a university and once I found one of those tiny metal tags from a fob. I did bring it home and put it somewhere safe though of course I can't remember where that is now.

Ooh, I had a fob that was missing the hangtag. I ended up buying a fob just for the hangtag! Later on I used the ring for another fob.

I have a plastic bag full of hangtags I've removed during rehabs. Most of them I can't figure out which bag they belong on!

My watermelon tote has a glued in serial number and leather covered frame too. I bought it at Savers for about $25 a year ago or so. It was in good condition but I still bathed and conditioned it.
I always clean and condition my bags but rarely do I dunk them. I have over 200 and I've dunked only two or three. I use leather products for leather, suede products for suede and fabric cleaner for fabrics. I did dunk a really gross strap to my Musette though. It took three times to get it cleaned up. I've attached a before and after shot of it. :-)

I've never seen it IRL. It looks like something an architect could use to carry rolled-up plans!
Oh, sigh... this is the bag I am longing for. I saw 1 a year or so ago, but I was trying to be a good girl and missed out on it. The price on this bag is not in my range. I guess a girl can dream. I should be happy with what I have which is so much more than I need. I have started selling some of my collection. When the closet is full and the over flow of NOS is in plastic containers I guess it's time to face reality.
