Here is a UA Stewardess..for sale by salearea..If it was a Cashin design, Salearea would definitely notate that as she hosts Hyacinths Guides

just because you wish it so doesn't mean it is a Cashin..kinda like the Coach sellers that call all their bags 1960s-70s Bonnie Cashin Designs..when they aren't even close.
Some ebay seller contacted me to see if I' might be interested in buying her "similar" bag to my NYC Flap shoulderBag from the 1980s that I had listed.I told her ya never know & to please send pics. Her pics of .her SIMILAR Vintage bag was a NOT a vintage NYC COACH but 2000 Patricias Legacy...kinda big difference, there!!

Salearea hires people to write the descriptions. There is always someone new working there and they aren't always well informed. I think it used to matter more to them that the titles and descriptions were exact; now I don't think they care.

Salearea has a crew of busy bee workers~wish I could borrow one!! It would be interesting to find out for sure if the UA stewardess NOT COACH bags were designed by Bonnie Cashin, though. I've seen a couple beauties~all black bags w/ UA logo made in Italy..
here is one:

A while ago I messaged salearea correcting a listing for a "Made in United States" Coach bag that was listed as a 1970's bag. I received a thank you with the comment "I will make sure the new person responsible for the error reads our own guides"!

yeah, she is pretty on top of things ~if you contact her she will respond personally.
Then the bad crew member gets twenty of these:bagslap: and has to copy the guides with a pen as homework..I will not talk in class..now its prob..I will not TWEET in class & they have to text that 100 times to the teacher...:roflmfao:

Having to handwrite it on paper would be a real punishment. Writer's cramp after two words!

The responses I've gotten are from the sales and communications director and Julie, the senior listing designer. They have writers and editors that are supposed to check the writers' work. It sounds like there are many employees. I think they have independent contractors that shop for them.

I thought I heard somewhere that Salearea was a man.

You should contact that Jeb guy, the coach expert at the archives..I bet he would know whether the UA bag was designed by Bonnie Cashin..I've seen several of those UA `not COACH bags..salearea has had a couple too.she might know..I believe they were made in Italy in the 1980s..it would be interesting to find out if its a true CASHIN design..
I have 2 UA COACH stewardess bags..the black w/brown stitching? and a Tabac..Too bad I'm too old to FLY as a Waitress in the Sky...:wlae:
Thanks, Sheri. I will let you all know what I find out when I receive the tan bag. I will thern be able to compare the two. The tan bag is the one I saw back in the day. I couldn't remember whether I saw it on a UA or AA stewardess and it was exactly like the one listed on eBay. I was a bit confused when I saw the Coach stewardess bags as they did not look the same.

I also saw (have to find it again) a listing of contracts that Bonnie Cashin had and one of those was with United Airlines. There was nothing indicating a contract with American. Depending on the age of those vintage stewardess bags, it is entirely possible that the later UA bags were made by Meyers (or someone else). BC left Coach in 1974 so no way to know if she continued to design bags for UA. I have done a bit of research and found out very little about Meyers except that they seem to have gone out of business in 1984. There is a definitely difference in the leather on the Meyers bags. It's not bad but it's not Coach. As for Jed, I need to contact him about another bag so will let you know what I find about there as well. My job is pretty exhausting these days so it may be a while before I get around to it. I am heading out on the road again. :-)

UPDATE: The UA bag arrived today. It is definitely NOT a Coach bag. The leather in that bag is exactly like the leather in a Meyers bag I have. It is much stiffer than Coach leather. The hardware is a nickel finish Also, the bag is actually black and not navy.
I have already cleaned the leather and a ton of blue came off the front flap but none came off the rest of the bag. Shoe polish does not a navy bag make.

The bag is in good condition and it's not a bad bag. I did find a small tag that says it was made in Costa Rica but it is not attached so could be a red herring. The zipper on the inside pocket says YKK. The feet are much more rounded than those on a Coach bag. While there is no actual proof, my semi-educated guess is that this bag was "probably" made by Meyers.

Bonnie Cashin had the contract with UA and she was never an employee of anyone. All of her design work was her own and she never manufactured anything. She had many different contracts with various manufacturers which is why the bags she made for Meyers are similar to but different than those she made for Coach. So far, there is nothing to actually prove who the manufacturer of the UA bags actually is. Now I really am out of here and back on the road.
