Ok...I'm really disappointed at the moment.
I thought I had found the Coach A Story of New York Cool at a book store in Wellington.
Ordered it as they said that they had one in stock.
20mins later order was canceled. No sorry we are out of stock and it's out of print.
Suggest look for second hand.
I'm looking at at least $200 NZ just to buy...not even shipping added.
Sometimes I hate being at the bottom of the world where it's so hard to get anything.

My first vintage Coach

I feel like I'm coming in to my "vintage era". I've been restoring some beautiful furniture and then I came across this adorable Watson bag on OfferUp. It needs a lot of cleaning and TLC, but I'm happy to invest my time and energy.

My mom always loved Coach and D&B and this reminds me of the purses she carried when I was young.

Consider me officially obsessed with vintage full grain leather Coach bags, starting now.

Not sure if there is a better place to post this, but hoping to share this with others who understand!

I finally got my hands on a very good copy of “The Factory: Portrait of a Leathergoods Factory in Downtown New York City”, photos by Jeremy Lezin and words by Miles Cahn.

To my surprise, I believe this is actually a signed copy, and it looks like signatures from the Cahns themselves (Miles & “Lili” Cahn). They don’t look like a “printed” signatures, and appear to be actual signatures. I took a close up to show part of the handwritten signature’s characteristics.

I ordered this from a bookstore that was actually in NYC, after months of searching & waiting for the notification a copy was available! I had an earlier opportunity for another copy from another bookstore, but they told me it smelled heavily of cigarette smoke, so I passed. This one just smells a bit like an old musty book (but it is from sometime between 1977-1981 — and I think some time in the southern sun will help with that)

I’m over the moon happy with this one.

Hi everyone my name is Robin and I’m from Texas. I have recently gotten into rehabbing vintage bags. I have this gorgeous rehabbed Black leather vintage bag that looks like a Penny Pocket but isn’t. I e been unable to find the bag. Reference number is 144. Does anyone here have any knowledge of this particular bag by chance?

Welcome to the forum Robin! Best place to post questions like yours is the Authentication thread https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/authenticate-this-coach-see-first-post-for-format.889527/

Be sure to follow the format that is pinned at the beginning. The best way to help with getting your Coach identified is to include more photos including the photo of the creed on the inside as well as measurements.

The Coach serial numbers have a bit of a complex history that you can read about in the SaleArea guides here. Be sure to take some time to read through the articles if you are curious to learn more about vintage Coach :smile:https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/salearea-guides.983575/

The SaleArea guides go over how the serial number has changed over the years. Based on the format and the creed text, it help give an idea when the purse was manufactured by Coach, which is why a clear photo is requested when authenticating / identifying Coach in the first thread I linked

Good luck and again, welcome to the forums

Just to add to the info and advice @mandy nicole already included -

"Reference number 141" doesn't tell us anything. Read the Salearea Guides especially the sections on serial numbers and creeds to learn why and why we always need to see the actual stamp. On yours, we also need to see the panel under the flap and a photo of the inside showing the full length of the inside pocket.

We prefer to confirm that Coach items are authentic before identifying them. A fake doesn't deserve a name.

We also need measurements.

And there's no such style as a Penny Pocket, That's a common mistake that keeps on being repeated on the internet.

Can anyone tell me which XL Duffle would have been selling in 1992-1993? I’m not positive, but I don’t remember it having a zipper, it might have had a snap at the top. It was THE COOL BOOKBAG at my law school, and it could hold an unbelievable number of big heavy books — without getting stretched out of shape! I had two, and I donated (sob) a navy and white rugby stripe, and can’t find the beautiful sort of cerulean blue one I kept. I’d love to hunt down the same version if anyone knows the style number from that era! Thanks in advance. . .

I can't recall a large duffle from that time period that fits your description. The best thing to do is for you to check the entire "Vintage Coach Catalogs" thread in the Coach Reference Forum and try to find that exact style.

The bag that comes to mind for your years & description is the Soho bag 4082. It was a large duffle-like tote bag that Coach offered with a snap magnetic closure instead of a zipper. This is a catalog scan of it from Spring 1993 preview:
