I do not know really where to post this, but I have been wondering if coach started with 000-0000 when they switched to creeds, and further on to starting with 0000-000 when the went to that format in the late 80's ? I'm asking because I have been searching for an earliesh '70's bag, from when I was a poor student in NYC and never could afford a Coach. In other words, is the number xxx-xxxx in any way indicative of when the bag was made ? Heheh trying to relive my youth

I've never been able to find any sort of logical sequence in the early all-numeric numbers, and I doubt if any all-zero serial would have been used. But someone with more experience with early numbered bags might have more information. It's hard to say for sure since there's no way to know what year most pre-1994 bags were even made, other than checking when a style first appeared in, or disappeared from, the catalogs.

Coach Duffle Sac 9085 bags are hard to find at a good price these days!!

I sent my aunt a black Legacy Zip 9966 as a gift a few months ago, and included a printout from the catalog from the year it was made.

She loved it and then asked, “can you find me the duffle bag?” At first I thought she meant a Coach duffel bag like from the travel collection, but she said, “no, on the second page of the catalog there is a duffle sac”… and thus my new journey began. I thought I would be lucky and find a beat up one that I could rehab, but these are apparently high demand bags and even the beat up ones go for a pretty penny!!

Well, I finally snagged one, in very good condition, for $100. I’ll give it a little extra TLC and then box it up and send to my aunt to surprise her. Super soft leather, no odor, no super evident scratches. I hope she will love it (Also… I didn’t realize how big this bag is!!)

I hope she loves it! It is huge! The few times I tried one on, I felt I looked like a little kid with my mom's purse.

Maybe I'm missing out on a unicorn because I don't see the draw or the reason for the crazy prices on Winnie bags! I am not a big-bag person but this bag is barely big enough for a wallet! Add a phone, make up/lipstick, etc. and the flap doesn't shut.

But a listing blew my mind. (Not posting a link but will comment and show pics.)

Seller wants $900.
  • strap is not made by Coach
  • strap has both gold and silver hardware
  • top handle is missing
  • per description: "Price reflects imperfections" $900?!?!

I love the look of small/mini bags, but you’re absolutely right — not very practical for everyday life. I usually find myself annoyed trying to fit my bare necessities (phone, wallet, keys, chapstick) into smaller bags…. But gosh they can look so cute or chic with an outfit.

Maybe that price seems reasonable for others, but I dont think I could make myself spend $900 on a vintage Coach that has a non-original strap and the mis-matched hardware colors. That would drive me insane. I would rather hold onto my $900, keep saving, and wait to put it toward a better listing

I often feel that too many folks have an elevated notion of the value of the bags they sell, while others could definitely charge more for their good bags. A bag which has busted piping on the corners is not worth 80 or more dollars, because, unless one is a seasoned rehabber, such a bag would have to go to a cobbler for fixing at a very dear price. I'm sure there are some bags which are truly sought after for their rarity or color, but again the price for a damaged bag would need to take fixing into consideration. The bag mentioned by Ms BB would need an OEM strap and a top handle installed to bring the bag to a true vintage state and goodness only knows how much that would cost. I also looked at Winnie measurements judging them too small and after my Wendy experience I slowly accumulated a list of bags that actually can work for me.
Btw, "The Federal" https://www.ebay.com/itm/185995885508 has gone from 9k+ to 7K+, just in case someone wants it :)

I agree! These bags are novelties in my opinion and the recent prices are obscene. They are adorable though and I would snatch one up if I could get one for under $50. Which means I'll never have one.

Amusing story for all of us collectors. I have been busy sorting my duffles and clearing out duplicates while I get a roomful of bedroom furniture ready for my daughter to take to her house. In the sorting, I organized by color. At 4am today, I woke up and remembered that I have a duffle sac in flannel grey and hadn't located that during the sort. I pulled out all of the black duffles (the keeps and the sells) and realized that I had no idea which one was actually grey. With some manipulation of the search feature here, and a big dose of luck, I was able to find the authentication here (February, 2020) with a still-there photo of the creed. Found the grey and now have paper ID for it, inside the bag and outside the dust bag. Thank you, Purse Forum, for helping restore my sanity. I was a wee bit panicked when I realized that I couldn't 'see' the grey this morning.

I wanted to share that a few weeks ago I managed to get my hands on the stuffed Coach dog I have been looking for. This one appeared to be in excellent condition and I picked him up at a reasonable price. Turns out his little tartan does have a small blemish near the leather Coach label (that I did not see when buying initially) but it’s pretty small and the rest of the dog is in otherwise perfect condition:smile:

hopefully the issue on the tartan doesn’t bother me too much. I can’t think of any way to repair it and I might not have bought it had I been aware of it
