seems like that good ol' stuff that everybody has in their household cabinent works! i.e. dishwashing liquid, toothpaste. Yeah, i use to use a designated toothbrush and a bit of toothpaste to brush my ring. i don't remember how it turned out but then my bf bought me a blitz 2000 (kind of the same idea of the ultrasonic cleaner) and it worked beautifully. I'm sure it would work the same as an ultrasonic cleaner. So....one thing i have to caution you if you do get the blitz2000 is to not leave your ring/jewelry in there for too long b/c the chemicals can be corrosive to the piece. hope you make your jewelry bling! its one of the best feelings you can get from seeing a sparkly clean like-new ring :)

Girls, I have a question. I'm going to try the hot water with ammonia idea but I'm wondering if you can over-do it. How often could I use that method without harming or loosening any of my diamonds and gold? Also, do you rinse the ammonia off or let it dry?

it doesn't damage anything, just don't use on soft or porous stones like pearl or opal.
I do it several times/week/

I scrub w/ a toothbrush, so of course I rinse it off w/ water afterwards:yes:

They sparkle like mad, just like cleaning a window!

Okay, so I'm getting married in 23 days:yahoo:but my ring is looking a little....well it needs cleaned. I feel stupid taking it to the Jeweler and asking them to clean it w/o buying anything there....so with that option set aside, does anyone know any tricks on how to clean your engagement ring? How do you clean yours?

I just take my ring to the jeweler and have them do it. If they offer the service, you shouldn't feel stupid for using it, especially if it's one that charges. Congratulations on your wedding, it's not long to go now!

I think we have the same wedding date!! 7/21/07

I plan on taking mine back to the jeweler to get it cleaned. Just tell them you are getting married and you want it to sparkle like crazy!! They should do it for free. It doesn't matter if you buy anything from them!

Your jeweler should be able to clean your ring without charging you. If you'd like to do it at home, you can clean your ring with the cleaning solution that you can get from any jewelry store - make sure you get the right kind for the metal. Or, just use a mild soapy solution, and a soft brush to clean the ring. I have to say though, a professional job is much much better than any home remedy. I clean my rings weekly with the cleaning solution and take them in for a professional cleaning every year.

Im a bit of a cleaning psycho. I own a professional steamer and a professional ultrasonic but what I use most often (I use the big guns every couple weeks) is this spray called Sparkle Sparkle. Buy the kit to start with though bec you want the little brushes. That stuff rocks.

you can buy it from nventa.com

BUT since it's your wedding day, Id go a couple days before your wedding and say "hey can you clean and polish this up for me for my wedding" and I bet they'll do it. Take it to a reputable shop and they can do it in moments while you wait.

That's awesome!!!! We do have the same wedding date!!!!! I'll bet you're getting really excited!!!! I know I am! Congrats to you!;)

Well, perhaps I will bit the bullet and get it professionally cleaned. I just feel so cheap....lol.

Congratulations on your upcoming BIG day! Like most ladies on the thread said, go have it cleaned professionally by your jeweler. They should be happy to do it for you.

If you don't have time to go there and need to do it yourself, I normally recommend using a soapy solution using dishwashing soap and warm water. Soak the ring a little bit and use a soft bristle brush to clean underneath the stone/between the prongs - gently. Your ring should come out a lot cleaner and sparkly! Have a great day!
