I usually take my jewelry to my jeweler to have cleaned. They have a steamer and an ultrasonic machine. Especially good for a tennis bracelet/necklace. My necklace gets nasty from the oils on the skin or suntan lotion. Windex is good for an in-between cleaning with a SOFT toothbrush.

I have the Cartier cleaning kit that I use at home. It gives everything a nice sparkle - I think I will take my jewellery to a jeweller this year though and get everything professionally cleaned.

windex + hair dryer!! no brushing necessary - sounds weird but works fantastically well (^(oo)^)v

suitable for diamonds & other hard gemstones only!!!
  1. soak jewelry (fully submerged) in windex for 10-15 minutes (longer if it's really dirty)
  2. remove and rinse thoroughly with water;
  3. dry with hair dryer
the hair dryer part is important because drying the jewelry with a towel or tissue just means you're rubbing a bunch of lint right back onto the jewelry! air drying has similar drawbacks, as any dust/dirt will stick to the wet surfaces of the jewelry.

When I don't have time to use my ultrasonic cleaner, I dab a dot of toothpaste on an extra brush for my electric toothbrush. It is an abrasive so it gets in and under to remove the dirt/oils. It really does work - the diamonds sparkle like crazy.

Okay tried this recipe and I am very impressed. It works much better than jewelite. Great tip to use the hair dryer too.

My mom cleans hers every now and then, and I just give her mine beforehand to do at the same time. We have some special jewelry cleaner that works pretty well - no idea what it's called though.

Windex and hairdryer does work great I do this when I want to give my jewellery a really good cleaning. another thing that works really well for diamond/ gold jewellery is boiling water and dish soap- put jewellery in the pot for a few minutes, scoop out and use a soft towel or hairdryer to dry.
on a regular basis I just wear my jewellery in the shower and kind of scrub it with a toothbrush lol:laugh:

I use water with a few drops of windex in a Sharper Image ultrasonic cleaner ... and then rinse well in hot water and buff with soft cloth. I guess i should try the blow dryer next time so I won't get the lint on it. :p
