I don't think it will ruin your ring. I've been cleaning my jewelries, with or without stones, with toothpaste. They'd come sparkly clean. Though not spanking new but you could see a "renewed" sparkle. Hope that helps!

I clean mine way to often to only do it at the jewelers.
How often are you guys cleainng yours?
I do mine about every 7-10 days, more often if it really needs it.

I put mine in a small glass of neat gin and leave it for about half an hour or so (not with pearls, opals etc.) and then I use a tiny little brush and soak again for a little bit. (My elderly Aunts method btw!)
Comes out sparkling!!

Heres a question: If I soak my engagement ring (white gold) too often, could it weaken the gold or prongs? I wonder if it eventually would eat away at it or something! I get so worried cuz I love my ring so much....:shrugs:

I buy just the liquid cleaner from Walmart and I buy a new jar every year. I'm afraid to take my ring into a jewelers to be cleaned because I heard that they can switch out the stones on you, like on E-rings, a jeweler that we thought was reputable in my home town got caught doing that.

My jeweler just told me to boil my jewely in water. Then take a soft toothbrush and clean under the prongs. I usually soak my rings in a jar of amonia overnight ( not silver or soft gems like pearls or jades, etc.). I brush clean them every once in a while.

I did the windex trick and voila!!! works G-R-E-A-T. Here are a couple of shots I took after I cleaned.
