I let it soak in a solution of ammonia and water. then, i steam clean it with that little red jewelry steamer. it works just as well as the jewelry store cleaner. in fact, it was my jeweler who recommended it when i told him i wanted to buy a professional steamer.

While gold does not tarnish, as other precious metals might, it can still lose its luster and discolor if not cleaned properly. The easiest way to clean gold jewelery is by using mild detergent, dissolved in water. Soak the jewelery briefly, then clean it well with a small brush. Be sure to get any dirt or oil build-up that has collected in creases or crevices of the jewelery. Then rinse well and polish with a soft cloth to be sure that there is no water or soap left on the gold.

I usually clean my pieces with precious stones and diamonds with a simple jewelry cleaner and brush. I sometimes even use an old toothbrush and toothpaste if I can't find my jewelry cleaner solution. :D

I'm looking into purchasing an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner. Does anyone use one of these? Do they work well?

I have an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner
it is amazing, it's like having new jewelry every time I use it

Awesome. What brand do you have and how much was it? You just put water in the ultrasonic jewelry cleaner right?

I want to purchase one, but I don't know how much I should spend for a good quality one. I've seen some from $20 to $100+

I payed mine 35 euros. I put demineralized water and a drop of liquid soap. The one you use to wash dishes.
I am in europe so I don't know if you will find the brand. Anyway, it is made in china, I guess.

Dawn dish liquid (the ORIGINAL blue Dawn, not the Dawn with lotion and such) and semi-hot water mixture. About a Quarter size squirt of Dawn in a cup, fill about 1/2 to 3/4 up with semi-hot water, put in jewelry and let soak. I usually leave mine in overnight. Cuts the crud in no time! Rinse thoroughly in cool water, air dry. I also use some Dawn on a toothbrush if I want to scrub something.
