Tips or suggestions for cleaning diamonds

I use to work at a jewelry store and we were taught tooth paste, alcohol, and cleaning supplies like dish detergent were a no no. I use jewelry cleaner and an ultra sonic machine that heats and shakes out dirt, works really well!!!

My jeweler has always told me to use glass cleaner. I use the Simply Green brand (so hopefully it doesn't have as many chemicals!), fill up a shot glass, and drop everything in.

I leave my jewelry in there for about 2-3 minutes, rinse and lightly scrub with a soft toothbrush. Then it looks good as new!

i use plain old windex, works like a charm!

and to answer OP's question: I've left stuff in there for a week before - got busy and forgot about it!! (>(oo)<) but it was fine afterwards (^(oo)^) i think as long as the stones are diamonds and the metal is gold or platinum, they should be ok for a few hours

I tried cleaning my ering with my sonic toothbrush the other day and it worked great! I am reusing an old brush head where the bristles have turned soft, cleaned it, and now reusing it to clean my diamond jewellery.

Does anyone know if this might be a bad idea? The diamond stays clean for much longer than just cleaning with a regular toothbrush.

My eternity ring gets dirty every week, I guess the channel set is bound to get skin cells and soap residue no matter what. I normally just rub it with a soft tooth brush and dish liquid but I noticed it is not super clean, still looks cloudy. So what I did today was this: in a short glass I added 1 tsp of bicarbonate soda, I placed the ring on top and added a bit of vinegar so the soda started fizzing. I gave it a good twirl in there and washed it under running water and the diamonds are like WOW! Super clean!

I clean my rings every few weeks in my ultrasonic cleaner. One of my jewelers recommended non-scented detergent and that seems to work great. I also have a steam cleaner that is really great for pulling up the sparkle. But my favorite way to clean them is to have my jeweler do it. Every time I go in, they take my rings while we're chatting, pop them in their cleaner. Perfect!! (I love my jeweler!!!)

I love my engagement ring and wedding bands. They "used to be" so clean and sparkly.
Since I wear my rings 24/7, including washing dishes and shower, etc, and after yrs of living in a well-water-only home, they look dull and rusty. Perhaps it's the minerals from the well water.

I wonder how to clean your rings yourself. I don't have a local jeweler that I trust enough to do so. My jewelers are so so far away.

Any advices? Thanks in advance.

I use either 91% rubbing alcohol, a solution of hot water and Mr. Clean or Sparkle Sparkle Spray that i buy on Nventa.com (I buy the Platinum one).

I use any of the above with a small toothbrush or the little brushes from Sparkle Sparkle (you get them in the kit or you can buy separately).

LOVE the Sparkle Sparkle.

Unless your rings are encrusted in micropave or melee diamonds, it sounds like they could benefit from an ultrasonic cleaning which uses steam to clean between the diamonds and metal.

Hot water, dishwashing liquid, and baby toothbrush. I have been doing this for years, and one of the owners of a jewelry store on Madison Avenue told me this is what they do, too. (They have very fine antique pieces and some new).

I just bought a jewelry steam cleaner made by sharper image at TJ Maxx and it was only $29.99. They are in the men's section by the boxed gifts.

Used it last week on my engagement ring and diamond band and it worked great and was easy to use.

I also like windex for diamonds (ammonia and water). Just be sure to rinse with water after spraying.
