Hi all, does anyone know if it's possible to replace just one of the chapes of a MC Speedy 25?

I've had this bag for 2 years and recently I sent it for hotstamping on the chapes, but it turned out kinda bad. I think the SAs here aren't very skilled at hotstamping on a Speedy.

I don't wanna sell it or anything 'cos it's my first LV and I absolutely love the Speedy. So I have this crazy idea to replace that particular chape, and re-do the hotstamping. Is it true that they have to send it back to Paris to do such kinda "repairs"?

If so, I was kinda wondering if I could, at the same time, get the "masters" in Paris to do a proper hotstamp for me when they replace the chapes?

... Does that sound very far-fetched? :confused1:

Oooh, I'm so sorry this happened to your Speedy. I think they can replace this but it's best to ask at LV store for a quotation on the cost first.

I think you first should tell them that you aren't happy with the heat stamping and hear what they say.

Yeah I guess I should've told them on the spot that I'm not happy with it, but I was in a hurry to get back to work and just took it.

In truth, they did warn me that it may turn out crooked but I sure wasn't expecting them to almost ruin the leather.

And all this had to happen when I'm super broke! Replacing the chapes will probably cost me another few hundred at one go, which is what I'm trying to avoid spending at the moment. :shucks:

Thanks for your suggestion though, Elliespurse!

A piece for the intensive care unit....my Graff Speedy.:smile1:
The handels with heavy patina nearly black, the vachetta piece with the heat stamp was in no good condition...really I did start not like to carry the Speedy any more. :-(

So I have washed, cleaned him before and then he travelled to Paris-Asnieres.

And now I can make new patina, new scraches and new dirt !!!:yahoo:;)

LOL! Very nice! I've never seen an LV with fully restored trim. This must have a cost a fortune!

Heya, everyone!

So I am definitely a newbie in the "haute" bag world because I just bought a used speedy 35 from ebay (my first expensive bag). The handles are quite dark, and I feel like baby wipes won't help too much. Everyone talks about the Mr Clean magic wipes though, but no one says what the long-term effects are.

Does anyone know what the long-term effects are if you use the magic erasers on the handles and brass buttons? Someone said it tries the leather out, so does that in essence cause the leather to be prone to cracking?

Gahh, it's quite a beat up bag, but I've wanted it for so long.

PS: does anyone know how to remove musty/mildew odor from the bag?

Much thanks!

IML

Welcome and congrats on your Speedy 35!! :D

I would first try to appreciate your Speedy as it is, perhaps use baby wipes to clean some. The truth is that darkened vachetta leather can't be changed without removing the top layer of the leather. I would not use Magic Eraser myself to make the color lighter.

Look through the faq section here for more vachetta tips.

There are also a faq section on smell: http://forum.purseblog.com/louis-vuitton-faqs/removing-smells-from-your-lv-faqs-98820.html

Good luck with your Speedy.

Thanks so much, Ellie! I need hope for paying so much for an item :(

There is another mini problem I'm having... I didn't think this was a big problem before, but now that I see the handles will be such a big problem...

In the pictures, on the bottom of one corner, there's a little rip near the lining. It's sort of frayed or something... here's the link to it...

It's the pic on the first row, 3rd last to the right side. See how it's frayed a bit? I thought it wasn't a big issue, but now that you guys mentioned fixing it up and stuff... I'm scared that I won't be able to fix this, and if I just leave it then it'll just get bigger and bigger.

Yikes... any solutions? Is this worn beyond repair?

Hi IML. That bag is really not in good condition. Its one thing for the vachetta trim to be darkened, but the canvas itself is cracking too! Did you recently buy it? Is there any way to return it? Unfortunately LV usually will not repair any bag with damaged canvas, especially a speedy since its almost all once piece of canvas. The corner of the canvas doesnt look TOO bad but what worries me is the cracking of the canvas along the zipper. I would be worried about cracking more and coming apart.

^The corner(s) seem a little worn but I think it's possible to fix this. There are products to put on just the tiny worn spot. The monogram canvas itself is very durable and won't rip.

You could ask docride what product to use in her leather care thread, post a reply with a question and attach a pic of the corner. Here's the link to her thread: http://forum.purseblog.com/hermes-reference-library/reference-vintage-bag-nightmares-leather-care-info-295160.html

Edit: I didn't see the cracking along the zipper.

Oh nooo *cries* seriously? I see the cracking now... Ellie, third row, 2nd and 3rd pictures to the left. Omg... what am I going to do??

Itsonly4me: I just bought it on ebay, so there's no way to return it. They listed the pix and description before I'd bought it, ahhh :''(

Thanks Ellie, for the docride thread. I guess I'll search around for what to do with cracked canvas now >_<

Ellie, thanks so much. I received the bag! It is lovely with its cracks and scratches, I just hope the canvas doesn't crack any further; docrine suggested some conditioners to help it.

The smell - it's taking a lot to get out! I used newspapers, tea bags, and bounty sheets and it's still there, though a lot of it's gone. Guess I have to be patient!

Thanks again, everyone.

IML

I purchased a large Noe from a wonderful seller on Ebay and she gave me permission to post pictures. I have cleaned it with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and put three coats of Apple Conditioner on it. It looks better but not as good as I KNOW I can get it. These are the before pictures and I will post after pictures soon!!!!:yahoo:
