Rescue project # 1

I won this Monogram Alma for a decent price and I'm about to undertake a restoration. It's a surprise gift for my wife.

Any suggestions or recommendations ? Primary concern is the bottom and egdes of the base vachetta. It looks a little stained and scuffed up. Handle looks well patina'd and in good shape. Canvas looks ok from the pics.
I bought some Apple cleaner and conditioner for supplies, as well as some magic erasers. The purse is currently on it's way from Japan. I will take some before pics but any input is appreciated.

Congrats, it looks great! The Apple products could be ok, look in the faq - top of the page cleaning/protecting for links to reviews on Apple prod. I would on the other hand be very careful about magic eraser, it could remove the glossy top layer of the leather which is not good. I would just clean/condition it. Look in the Alma clubhouse for MsFrida's Alma with lovely color and patina.

Good luck and it will be a lovely gift!

Bag looked ok but a little dirty when it came in. I used Apple cleaner several times on baby wipes on all vachetta surfaces. The wipes were coffee brown during the first few applications but became barely yellowish by the 4th time. I also wiped the canvas with baby wipes and turned the dull color into a soft shine.
Applied a layer of Apple leather conditioner on the vachetta, then let it dry overnight. Applied another layer the next day.
Noticed that the dirt/smudge marks are gone and the color is an even honey now. The handles that were heavily oxidized from hand oils/moisturizers, etc is now a lighter color.
Overall, I'm happy with the results of this rescue. No need to have any parts replaced and it looks beautiful with it's classic patina.

Lilpeanut - it looks gorgeous....I want to embark on the exact project. I want a mono Alma but would like it with heavy patina. You have just inspired me more. Congrats on a great makeover!

i have a pochette accessoires that i wore to death and one day the slider and pull tab on the zipper fell apart while i was out. when i called the customer service, they told me that it'll take about 4 weeks to repair and they weren't able to quote me how much it'll cost (if at all) until i bring the bag in. i went today and the staff is a superstar .. not only did he fix it in less than 5 minutes with a new slider and pull tab, he didn't charge anything for it and he even brought it up to the second floor of the store where me and my colleague were looking at shoes. for his good service, i'm definitely going back to LV next month to buy more bags :)

I got this fantastic amarante cosmetic pouch for an awesome price... cos the zipper pull was missing... other than that it was brand spanking new! My SA said to just bring it in and they'll put on one free of charge! Yipee!

Will update when I get it fixed! :D

A piece for the intensive care unit....my Graff Speedy.:smile1:
The handels with heavy patina nearly black, the vachetta piece with the heat stamp was in no good condition...really I did start not like to carry the Speedy any more. :-(

So I have washed, cleaned him before and then he travelled to Paris-Asnieres.
