Thanks, Elliespurse & Chanticleer!!! :smile1:

I am dying for the bag to come back...and looking for a strap to make it more wearable for me in the meantime. (I am more of a shoulder/cross-body bag person, but the Alma is just too lovely to pass up!)

dear all,

just discovered some light scuffs/scratches on my taiga messenger bag! i was a little surprised as it is difficult to scratch taiga leather, but i guess it happened.

Is there any tip on how to cover the scuff/scratch ? I always do the same with my dress shoes, using shoe cream to cover light scuffs, but I'm not sure with Taiga due to the texture of the leather.

any advice would be appreciated! THANKS!

^I would try the shoe cream, but only apply in the tiny spot/scratch, wait a few minutes and try to buff the excess. I know Hermès do this on textured bags when they are sent in for spa. There's also a leather care thread you could ask a specialist here if you want. g/l

hey - omg i never knew if you can replace whole handle thing... where can i get my speedy handle replaced =D i live in San Francisco.. and how much am i looking for? thank you for great info:yahoo:

My handles are being replaced. It's $168 for the handles, leather tabs that hold the handles on each side of the bag and the zipper pull. They said they don't charge for the zipper pull - either that or it's included in the price of the handles? They also said the price to replace all of the leather, including the piping is 2/3 the original price of the bag. So for my bag would have been $700. (based on the LE price of the bag)

I dropped it off four weeks ago. They said I'd get it at the end of August so that's six weeks if it comes back on time.

Okay, my mono Alma came back to me last week...

...and I have some before & after pics to share. :graucho:

I hope that you have the patience to look at a lot of photos!!!

And before I continue, I should add that something really lucky happened to me with this repair - when they called me to let me know that the bag was ready to be shipped to me, the manager informed me that they has quoted me the wrong price for the repairs ($408) - the actual price was over $700, but the SA made a mistake in the original quote. However, being an excellent company, LV honored the original quote. :yahoo:

Here come the pics!!!!

And I should add that the original lock, key, and dust bag were missing. Clearly, my mother got a lot of use out of this bag, lol. She loves the fact that it opens so wide. The lining was surprisingly clean, though, and looked fantastic after I did a little work on it myself.

The "before" bag actually looks much better in pics than in person...you can't see it well at all here, but the zippers were in rather sad condition. Here's what my $408 investment did (minus the cost of a new lock, which was $39, if I recall correctly) ....

Loquita - Wow!! Congrats on getting your Alma back, such a wonderful transformation! I love when an old bag is given extended life and the history that follows with it. Great story with the quote too :amuse:

Loquita - it came out great. Looks so nice. What's the date code? That would tell you when it was made.

I dropped my speedy off on July 19th and I still don't have mine back yet! It's been over 6 weeks. Your was quicker and you had more done - mine is just handles.

Thanks!!! I know, I am so happy that I could get this bag refurbished...it means a lot to me that my mother used it and enjoyed it so much, and now it's mine.

I love old items - the stories behind them (and the people who owned and used them) are fascinating.
