I finally ordered and received the Vachetta Cleanser from Lovin My Bags. It came with a microfiber cloth and two "miracle sponges".

I happened to have recently purchased a box of Mr. Clean Magic Eraser(s) for household cleaning - never ever will I use this household product on vachetta again. It's too harsh.

That's why I bought the LMB cleanser. I used it on newer vachetta (1 yr old) with the microfiber cloth. It was very gentle, with great results! I love it.

I had another item with vachetta that required a bit more help. Great, because this seems to be perfect for the LMB cleanser + the LMB "Miracle Sponge". After I used this combo on the vachetta, I noticed that the shine to the vachetta had diminished. Then I looked closer. This LMB "Miracle Sponge" has EXACTLY the same look and feel to Mr. Clean Magic Eraser! The pores are just the same. I am concerned that LMB, which markets themselves as having high end solutions to handbag maintenance, may have been a bit lazy with this detail and just stuffed a few sections of magic eraser in with their remarkable cleanser. I would be surprised if I'm incorrect.

Anyone else have this "Miracle Sponge"? I really think it's Procter & Gamble's Magic Eraser. Not cool, because again - I never would have knowingly used it on vachetta. And if I'm correct, it brings this company down a notch in my eyes. I ordered from them because I wanted to support original work.

Amazing thread! All the restores done with the magic eraser are actually SHOCKING. I love vintage and preloved LV's but am worry about using a ME on them. Heck, i always wear glove when I use ME. I don't know what chemical is used but am worry about the transfer onto my skin. For this reason I am wary about using it on my LV. However, seeing all the success stories I might want to use one.

I'd recommend not using it - I've done it on several bags and while it lifts dirt/lightens patina, you lose the subtle shine that is actually pretty important with this type of leather and basically rub it "raw". Much better is to use a pH-balanced vachetta cleanser with a clean white cloth, or alcohol-free baby wipes, but that's just my 2 cents. :smile1:

I've heard these are usually a lost cause but does anyone have any good tips on getting dye transfer out of a vernis wallet?

I have the same issue with my vernis ZCP. I tried a variety of patent leather cleaners and they didn't work, then Windex - didn't work, and then I figured it was something I would live with. On an older patent item I got desperate and used acetone - never do that! It will take the stain off by dissolving the patent coat, which is not what you want!

I wish I had a reliable solution for this one.

I wonder if something like this would be a good piece to restore? At least the lining maybe?

DId you end up winning this? I've seen several people just pull the lining out, scrub it with a stiff brush to remove all the sticky vuittonite - so that they are left with just the cloth lining. Let it dry - and voila - they use it that way. They seem to come out pretty nice!

No, really tempted to find one and bid on it now though after the positive outcomes others have had.

I'm still playing with getting ink out of vernis for now ^.^ a bucket will be my next project though!
