Originally, I was going to try just using some sort of glue to fix the seam, but thought over time it would just crack again.

Because I know how to sew fairly well, I got out a needle and thread and decided to sew the seam. I used a thin needle because I didn't want to split the canvas as I was sewing it, dark brown thread and very small (close together) stitches. I also gave the canvas a good cleaning with baby wipes and removed any marks on the straps with a ME and baby wipes, then conditioned them.

Here is the result!

I also made a stiff cardboard insert that I pop in along the top when I'm storing it, as to reduce the stress along that seam.

Ever get too aggressive with magic eraser and remove the shine from your vachetta? I have on a 1980s Speedy 25, so I put the shine back in with Tarrago Self-Shine in 00 Neutral. It's been ~6 months since I did this and the subtle shine has stayed without further darkening the already dark patina.

Anyway, this was my first LV and I am glad I can work with it!

Also, the reddish color isn't a thing now - it's an orange-brown color.

Looks good - thanks for sharing the product information!

Rescued this bag from eBay and authenticated by the lovely people on this forum. Seller said no odor but it's a bit musty so working on that. Lining is peeling a bit but both pockets are sticky. Overall I'm very pleased. Can't wait to carry it. ImageUploadedByPurseForum1425318452.714793.jpg

I had a stain on the vachetta strap of my preloved Delightful GM. I still I'm not sure what it was that caused it. I tried everything to get it out, leather cleaners and conditioners, magic eraser, patina champ method ( which worked on other bags I have), etc. I decided to try a homemade remedy of lemon juice and cream of tartar in equal parts to make a paste...I was so scared, so I put it on the underside of the very worn handle strap to test. And was surprised to see it cleaned and/or lightened the vachetta. I finally place the paste on the stain and 10 mins later the stain was lightened. I tried it 3 more times and in the end the stain in the strap is nearly gone. I don't have pictures of it because I never took pics of the stain specifically before and I didnt expect it to work so well. I know it sounds scary but I'm just letting folks know that it worked for me - when nothing else would. I'm pleased with the outcome.

Thanks for sharing! I will try this if I ever get a particularly stubborn stain. I love that you were able to mix it up at home.

You're welcome. I hope it can help others! I figured since it's homemade, what's the worst that can happen? In my case, I already had lemon juice in fridge and the cream of tartar (which I'd never used, owned, or heard of) cost me $4.99 at the local grocery store. I had spent all kinds of $$ on leather cleaners and conditioners before trying this. I was truly desperate and was on the verge of selling my beloved Delightful because the stain on the strap was so unsightly to me (the stain was there when I acquired the bag). Now the stain is gone and I LVOE the bag again and don't plan to part with it. The bonus is that the bag had an overall even honey patina except for that stain and now the stain is basically gone and the paste actually lightened; more accurately brightened, the patina overall. I LVOE the outcome. I'm taking her outside as soon as I apply a leather conditioner, just to restore any moisture she may have lost, thought the bag doesn't even look dry!

Thanks for the info. I have a stain on the underside of my Delightful strap but it still bugs me. I think I will try this. I actually have some Cream of Tartar that I bought for a cookie recipe over Christmas!
