Wow - what did you use to clean it? Looks amazing:smile1:

Thanks, everyone!

Well, it took some effort.

The stains on the left side (facing the front) were mostly water stains, whatever it was. The black stains on the right were definitely some kind of oil based, IMO - much tougher to clean. Oddly enough, as gross as it looks, there were no weird smells (and I have the nose of a bloodhound).

I used a Magic Eraser and honestly just went over, and over, and OVER the dark stains until they were mostly gone. I kind of played with the wetness of the eraser....at first I had it fairly damp. I tore it into smaller pieces to make it more manageable. I really rubbed at the darkest spots because whatever it was, really coated the vachetta so I wasn't as worried about damage until I got whatever it was OFF. Then I was more careful.

I just let it dry in between cleanings, so I could gauge my progress. The water stains, I just used an alcohol free baby wipe to blend - again, it took several times of wiping, drying, wiping, drying.

The white scuffs on the exterior come right off with a gentle swipe of the Magic Eraser. I also wiped the canvas clean with baby wipes.

The inside was in great shape, there were one or two small pen marks that came right out with a Qtip dipped in rubbing alcohol, then I gave it a good vacuuming.

I made sure to apply several coats of leather conditioner once I was satisfied with the stain removal. Then I gave the metal parts a good polishing with Maas metal cleaner.

So in summary, I used a Magic Eraser, baby wipes and LMB conditioner.

You're truly a brave soul for taking on this restoration and I bow to you!!!!!!!!:dothewave:

Hi everyone,
I have been lurking this forum for a few years and I am amazed at the restorations of the bags. I recently purchased a speedy 25 Damier azur from eBay. The bag is in good condition I think. The interior is damaged by ink marks and the patina has darkened can someone give me DIY rescue tips or should I take it to LV for replacement?

I would try some lovin my bags on those handles, get a purse organizer to hide the inside of the bag, clean the zipper, put a lovely bag charm on it and use it!

Lol please forgive me but what can I use to clean the zipper and handles? I have a speedy in the mono classic and its in mint condition so I don't worry about cleaning it. I am a rookie at this.

You can use Brasso on the zipper, Loving my bags is a great cleaner for vachetta leather.
Just google Lovin my bags and you'll find the website where you can order. It won't take off all the darkness on your handles but it will clean them up some.

Thanks so much! I was going to buy it from LV but I could not take the prices. I got my first speedy at $525 now its almost $1000! Now I am off to search for a never full.

Took my Monogram MM Neverfull on a business trip lately and it went through the airport X-ray machine. To my horror, the vachetta on the top of my handbag was marked a black color due to the rubber strips on those X-ray machines. Thankfully, I remembered reading on this forum someone using a white eraser to rub black marks off. I grabbed a eraser and rubbed a small section and it worked a treat! After a few minutes of rubbing, all the marks were gone. Thanks to this forum, I restored my LV.😀

My all-vachetta Marais is finished! I followed Docride/Elliespurse's instructions, and did more "layers" of Blackrock than I can count! I'm sure I'll continue to treat this bag and it will only get more beautiful with time.

Thank you to everyone in this thread and others for your patience and advice!

Here are the before pictures:
I remember seeing this bag online too! You did a magnificent job on it! It looks so rich and luxurious!
