My all-vachetta Marais is finished! I followed Docride/Elliespurse's instructions, and did more "layers" of Blackrock than I can count! I'm sure I'll continue to treat this bag and it will only get more beautiful with time.

Thank you to everyone in this thread and others for your patience and advice!

Here are the before pictures:

Nice! Do you by chance have a link to Docride's directions? Every time I search I end up buried in threads without actually seeing the directions.

Yes, as a matter of fact, I do! I saved them as a pdf, but I can't upload that here, so here is a jpg version. I'm not sure if these were directly from Docride or if Elliespurse put them up here in one of the Vuitton threads. They are not mine, so credit and kudos go to those who took the time to compile them, and i hope it's okay that I saved them. :smile1:

Also--I ordered the products below on Amazon, so they are widely available.

I did many more layers than instructed below. There is no exact formula for it, but I found that once I got the hang of it, I just kinda "knew" what my bag needed :smile1:

THANK YOU!!!! I just got the 2 products in the mail and now I am really ready to go. I have an old Speedy that I bought well before tPF (or at least I think, what year did this start?) and had no idea how to properly treat a Louis Vuitton. Despite that, it has held up great, but I would like to perfect the vachetta.

Okay, well the first thing you want to do is wipe it down with an ALCOHOL-FREE baby wipe. This will clean anything off the surface of the leather. After it dries, then do your first coat of the Blackrock. (when they say that less is more, they mean it! you don't need much!)

Yes, I did that with the wipes (I have 2 kids so plenty of alcohol free wipes around), but might have been over zealous. Oops. Handles looked so dry after the wipes, plus I live in California which is dry dry dry.

Will try 1st coat of Blackrock tomorrow!

it's okay, the blackrock and obenauffs stuff will fix that. it's just important to use the wipes in case any residue is left on the leather. Otherwise, you end up with what I showed earlier in this thread--stains that take FOREVER to get out!

(don't worry, with these products, you can't really HURT it. it seems like basically anything is fixable, especially if you look at my "during" pictures. just post your questions here and we'll work it out, or find someone who can!)
