i'm so sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place--I couldn't find any other recently-active threads about vachetta issues. I've been following the Docride instructions to treat an all-vachetta LV Bucket bag I recently purchased, pre-loved. After the Blackrock, the bag looks like it's stained! I followed exactly what she said, rubbing a small amount in circular motions with my fingers, and wiping the excess with a new, lint-free cloth. What am i doing wrong? HELP!

Congrats on your LV Bucket :D

I think there was something on the leather before you started. Has the leather rested for a few hours when you took the pic? On my all vachetta Alma I used (alcohol-free) baby wipes to clean the leather, perhaps you could remove the darker areas on your bag before doing another Blackrock layer?

Keep us posted about how it goes.

OMG thank you so much for responding! Your all-vachetta Alma was my inspiration for this purchase! :)

I did try buffing it with alcohol-free baby wipes last night, and the dark spots have faded somewhat, but there are streaks all over the bag that don't really show up when I try to photograph them (basically, it looks like I used shoe polish or something)!

Should I try another coat of Blackrock at this point? the straps actually look pretty good--just the body of the bag seems to be affected.

I think I would use baby wipes until it's cleaned from what was on the leather when you got it. The Blackrock will also clean a bit when you continue with this. You can do as many layers of Blackrock as you like. My Alma also has some spots when looking closely, it's like an old furniture with the patina. Your Bucket will be gorgeous!

thank you so much for the moral support! I'll keep working on it today. I let it rest overnight, so hopefully, when I revisit it, it will keep blending in

oh! one other question for you, if you don't mind: how do you know when you've done enough layers of Blackrock and it's time to do your layer of Obenauf?

My Alma is older (from 1999) and I think it needed less layers. I wiped off the excess of Blackrock after a few minutes and let it rest for half an hour. In the beginning the leather was dry after resting but later it needed more time. I think at this point the leather is "filled up" and I now just do Obenaufs.

It's getting BETTER! It's still drying from the latest layer. I did use my Magic Eraser on the most stubborn stains. I ordered some of that Lexol ph cleaner spray stuff Docride mentioned, so I figured I would use that on any remaining stubborn spots, unless you think that's a bad idea? I completely bow to your knowledge and experience on this, so if there are any other products I should get, please let me know, my guru!!

Photo #2: One of the seller's photos--there was a huge water spot on the front, and I'm pleased to see that's gone!

rachbu - It looks great! Just be careful with the magic eraser, it could change the leather and the area could look different forever.

TeamHutchens - About armor all: I don't know about this one but many products contain silicon which it not good. It's like a plastic coating on the leather.

Thank you so much!

I only used the Magic Eraser as a last resort, when nothing else was really working to get those stains out. What I did though, that may be different from others' instructions, was I cut it up into small squares, dampened the squares with water, then put a small amount of Blackrock on the eraser-square. I then used the square to apply the Blackrock, and a separate, clean, dry cloth to wipe the excess. I did three or so applications today. Now, I'm letting the bag rest until tomorrow for re-evaluation :smile1:

TeamHutchens: I don't think you were talking about my bag looking amazing because this is my first time attempting to do this, but just in case you were, THANK YOU. It's all due to Elliespurse's inspiration and advice in this and other Vachetta threads, and Docride's expertise!
