Hello there, I wanted to share my rescue experience.
I purchased a speedy 35 from 1986 and I paid $200 for it. Let me tell you this bag needed some love. She was in bad shape, all of the hardware was pretty much black and rusted. The vachetta was cracked and dry but the canvas was perfect. I decided to try to clean it as best as I could but while cleaning it I was a little too aggressive and accidentally tore off the zipper pull. I knew I wanted to replace it ASAP but I didn’t want the leather to be mismatched. I decided to invest in her and change all of the outside vachetta. She looks amazing!!!! Almost like a brand new bag. I paid $540 to change the vachetta and for under $800 I pretty much got a brand new bag with quality canvas. I attached a photo of her transformation. I say preloved is the way to go when it comes to the monogram canvas.

Does LV clean the inside of the bag when they replace the leather?

All of mine are rescues....I love that they all had a life and I love taking a bag that looked rough and making it beautiful again. None of my bags are less than 20 years old and I have restored all of them.

I have-

Houston Vernis in lime green
Reade PM Vernis in red
Saint Jacques in black Epi
Alma PM in mono
Speedy 25 in mono
Bucket GM in mono
Tribeca in DE
Papillon 30 in DE

I have some SLGs too

I have a Speedy 25 and Noe, both in Toledo Blue Epi that I bought to sell. Good chance I will keep at least one of those if they don’t sell soon.

I am lusting for a Saleya DE...I would sell the Tribeca in a heartbeat for one!

Wow!!! That’s quite a collection. Any pics?!

She looks GORGEOUS! Though the darker original patina was pretty too!
Thank you. I was planning on keeping her with the dark patina but when I accidentally ripped off the zipper pull I knew it would bug me to not have the original zipper pull. Had I changed just the zipper pull it would have been lighter than the rest of the bag. It probably would have eventually darkened like the rest but since the bag is from 1986 I thought it would take a while for it to match. That’s why I chose to do all of it. In the end I love it and yet I haven’t used it since getting her back from repairs. I need to make some plans and go somewhere I guess :giggle::lol:

Hi!! Newbie here!! I absolutely LOVE vintage LV!! I purchased a Deauville a couple months ago...great canvas no cracking or peeling. Interior is flawless (she has been loved) however, as you can imagine the handles are quite dirty and the canvas very stiff....any rehab recommendations! Xoxo pics below...

Hi there! The bag looks lovely. Have you tried YouTube? There are lots of videos on cleaning vintage bags. I’ve used saddle soap and baby wipes in the past for dirty handles along with leather conditioner and brasso for the hardware.

After wiping the whole bag with sensitive skin baby wipes, I let it dry and use a plain white eraser with light pressure on the handles/stained leather and Armor All on the canvas. Follow with another pass with baby wipes on the leather followed by Apple Care (leather conditioner.)

I’m always scared to use the white eraser as I’ve heard some bad horror stories.
