Here’s my story ladies need help!
So I purchased a LV Sac Plat bag on eBay. They lady I bought it from told me it was great condition on the outside and sticky on the inside. I got it yesterday and it was beautiful on the outside the inside was a different story. It was pretty bad not just sticky but gooey and gross! So I read on here that people have taking off that sticky lining with simple green. I was able to get it all off last night but it was a mess and the fabric was still sticky and gross. So I took it to the LV store today and it would be $480 to reline it which I paid $125 for the bag already. I really don’t want to spend that so the store told me there was a shoe marker in the mall that they send customers to and he is familiar with LV repairs. So I went to him and he said he would reline it for $200 he’s going to do a light brown leather inside and going to condition the leather handles. And replace the leather pieces that are attached to the handles because they are very dried out and cracking. He’s also going to clean up the Canvas. So my question is did any of you ladies reline your LV and if so with leather? I’m not sure how it’s going to look. I asked if he had the brown cloth he said he can do that as well but thinks the leather would look beautiful in it. He’s also going to replace the Louis Vuitton made in France tag. I’m completely nervous about this haha I have never gotten any of my bags repaired. Is $200 a good price for all of that? Please help here are photos of the inside that I tried to remove the lining but still sticky. I watched a video where the lady removed the whole lining leaving the back side of the canvas. Is that an option? View attachment 4124051
That is just an incomplete lining removal job. You could get the rest of that off with cotton balls soaked in acetone nail polish remover. But it depends how much risk you are comfortable with. You need to cover all the mono with cloths etc so the acetone doesn't get on it. When done you will be left with a soft cotton kind of fabric lining.

Oh ok thanks that’s exactly what I want is that soft lining until I can get it fixed. I can’t turn the bag inside out so it hard to work with your hand stuck inside the bag. Will the fabric get ruined? When I was working at trying to get it all off last night with simple green the fabric started to become very loose If that makes sense. I was afraid it was going to break.

The fabric is pretty thin under the coating but the acetone doesn't ruin it, just strips off all the sticky lining material. My approach was to soak a cotton ball, rub at a small area until it removed a lot, then go to a new area with a fresh cotton ball. You have to go back over areas sometimes. When done you can then wipe it all out with a damp cloth(damp with water) to remove leftover acetone smell. I did this in my bucket GM. I was left with beige cotton lining.
It is a hard messy job!

I’m def going to try with the polish remover I just want a soft lining like I see online that people get. I thought my bag was ruined and done lol so glad I posted on here. I called the shoe marker and told him I’m coming to pick it up than I’m not repairing it anymore. Another question can you tell me what is the best leather cleaner/condition for LV? The straps are very dry and cracking I have read on Apple but the LV store told me bicks.

I'm sorry I don't know about leather conditioners, I have heard that Apple Care is good but haven't used it myself.

I read that some rescuers here use LMB and Cadillac but I have not used them. I used Clark’s premium leather cream and I’m quite satisfied with that.

Thanks for your opinion. I already decided I’m calling the shoe maker in the morning when he opens and telling him I’m picking it up. I’m going to try to fix the lining for right now until I can get it fixed by LV I don’t have the $500 right now to repair. But I have many other vintage LV’s so I’m wanting to add to my collection so I think it’s worth it to fix it.
On the previous page of this thread I have posted before and after pictures of a toiletry pouch with the sticky lining removed. I used fragrance free baby wipes, it takes a lot of time and is a messy job but eventually you will remove all the stickiness and have just the soft cotton shown in my after picture. I too was put off by the high cost lv has, but I agree with @fabuleux as I would only have lv carry out repairs. I would be concerned that I would be disappointed with the result from anyone else. Zoom in on my after pic linked below, the lining is perfect once all the stickiness has been removed and I have done this with several items. Persevere!!! Also if you decide at a later date to have lv re-line it, you’ll still have that option.

Please update us with your results whatever you decide, looking forward to seeing it. And congrats on a great deal!

Ok I did the acetone on the lining and this is what I got I would say it looks so much better!! But I think I need to go over it one more time once it dry maybe tomorrow. What do you guys thinks? It’s still has some dark spots and the fabric under is kinda dark probably because it’s a vintage. Has anyone rubbed baby powder into the fabric after? Next I have to do the leather and the canvas IMG_1531121904.121661.jpg

Looking good! It will never be perfect but going over again wouldn't hurt. I have only heard of people using baby powder when there is sticky lining still there - they sprinkle it on and it "covers" the sticky bits so I don't think you would need it here?

Yea I tried the whole baby powder when the sticky layer was there it didn’t work to much. It masked it a little bit but you could still feel it. I’m going to go over it one more time tomorrow once this dries. I know it’s not going to be perfect but I’m happy with the results!! So much better than the before that’s for sure lol...

 Great job! Well done! If you can still feel any residue, I would keep going until there’s none left.

I finished the inside of the bag which it look great!!! But now I have a problem my handles are cracking and my tabs that hold the handles one side is dark and looks stained. Can anyone help me with how to make them lighter like the other side? IMG_8249.jpg

The right side is still wet from condition it and wiping it with a baby wipe. But I don’t think it’s going to dry light like he other side. There was a stain on it

You could use a Magic Eraser on the tab to lighten it, but it will dry out the leather so would probably need to use a leather conditioner on it afterwards.
Or you could just get the handles and tabs replaced by LV.
