So… I found myself browsing Ebay one day and came across a listing for a Louis Vuitton Toiletry Pouch 15 in junk condition. I became curious and wanted to see how bad an item needs to look like to be considered as unusable goods. The word JUNK was splashed all over the listing and the price was ridiculously low.

Some pics from the listing:

It was quite sad: sticky and totally ruined interior, dirty leather tab, zipper not working properly… But when I took a closer look at the pics, I started to see some life in it. It made me quite sad to think about this poor pouch which still had some good features left: the leather tab had intact corners, the canvas was perfect, and the stitching was intact.

I purchased the pouch. Even though it was sold as a piece of junk. And even though the seller send me a warning before agreeing to send the item (“please confirm the condition and all photos again”).

Some pics from the beginning of the process:

After cleaning the whole pouch, removing the inner lining, lightening the leather tab with magic eraser, polishing the metal parts and using a candle to fix the zipper etc. this is how my new favorite makeup pouch looks like now:

What do you guys think about my rescue mission?

Great job! This is a common repair here, a lot of people don’t seem to realise that the sticky lining can be removed from these pouches. I have done this with a tp15, tp19 and tp26

Congrats! Looks awesome. I have rescued a couple of things myself and didn't know about lightening the leather tabs with magic eraser! Off to try that now on my pochette :)

Yes, i have done sticky removal with acetone nail polish remover with great success.
I didn't only remove the sticky coating, I was a bit more extreme and removed the whole lining. I had cleaned it first but wasn't pleased with the results.

I felt no remorse after seeing how gross the "clean" lining looked like after removal.

This is the final result:

The brown textile shown is the underside of the canvas.

Thank you all for your kind comments!!! :flowers:

Here is my reworked LV pouch from the LV Grande Bucket bag. I see these items are popular rescue items here [emoji1]

I’ve had mine for a few years now and it is still in fantastic condition, however the lining had started to peel. I don’t use it daily (I used the pochette accessoire on daily basis) but when I do it serves as a catchall, makeup bag and a wallet.

I decided to peel the lining. You are then left with an uncoated textile-like canvas backing. I actually liked the way it looked and the colour – deep beige however I wanted to be able to easily clean the interior if it got stained so I needed to be able to seal it. My solution was to simply use the Fabric Mod Podge (waterbase sealer, glue and finish) and sealed the backing with two coats of the stuff. It is a durable, washable, water-based and non-toxic adhesive and leaves a gloss finish a bit like an oilskin So far it is holding up well.View attachment 4108777DSC_3310.JPGDSC_3314.JPG
