yea the part that fell off is leather... but the white part that exposed the peeled leather does feels like fabric.

I always had this impression the leather used for the chains was leather glued together? But from this bag, it doesn't seem to be.

I thought the same - that the interwoven leather is folded and glued together like how it is on the classic flap straps.

It really sucks they're making you and others with this issue pay for the replacement straps. I get it's wear and tear but I think it's cuz they didn't use good quality leather or it's a combination of leather and fabric. I hope they take this feedback and make the straps on new bags better so this won't happen for others.

thanks for sharing, i am trying to get hold of a chevron pc as it seems less likely to sag but it seems difficult to find in the secondhand market. will have to go for the quilted one brand new from the store if still unable to get the chevron one soon, held back due to the sagging

I have a samorga insert inside of mine & it has not sagged. It helps hold the shape. Though it has been sitting on my shelf untouched for a long time. What size are you looking for? I might let mine go

Checked on mine today and got the same issues too! Also saw some leather peeling at the corner of the bag beside the zipper…..

Hello, I know it’s a bit too late but I’m thinking about buying a new small hobo gabrielle in black. I’ve been eye-ing this bag for so long. But I’ve read a lot of comments, complaints regarding the peeling on the strap leather. And it scares me…How and why does it happen ? I dont understand. Is because the frequenf of use or because of the bad batch? Can somebody help explain it to me? If I purchase a new one (year 2022) will those things happen to me too? I’m confused. Should I still go buy it or not? Need all your advices & inputs. Thx

I have mine since it first came out and no peeling issue. I live in the cold climate almost most of the year though so I don’t know if the weather has anything to do with the peeling problem

I bought mine in 2017 and I have not had this issue. Still very much in love with my Gabrielle!

Hi there, I bought mine in 2018 and I have no issues at all! I don't baby my Gabrielle - no moisturising of the leather and have never brought it to a bag spa. I live in a tropical climate whole year round and my bag still looks really really good! That said, this is not my daily bag. I have quite a few bags so they all get rotated well. But I have been using her on and off for the past 5 years and I don't have that peeling problem. I am still in love with this bag as on the 1st day I got her!

Here's a photo of my chain strap. Bag is from FW 2018 if I remember right.

I wonder if this peeling strap issue is on more recent bags, past 2-3 years? Based on the pictures, it seems like the straps that peel are not fully leather. It's a bold claim but the underneath looks fabric.
