Oh gosh. So I have a (old) medium Gabrielle purchased in March 2018 that I....never used, it was kept in the box, until 8 months ago when I built a bag cabinet in my home and put it on display. And it was never used until 2 weeks ago when I went on holiday in Japan and decided to bring it with me. Halfway through my trip I noticed the straps peeling like in the photos above. I was horrified - it's the first time the bag has been used, is the quality that bad? Also it's been so long since I bought it that there's no way there's any sort of warranty coverage. Ugh.

Not sure if the climate matters here because it sounds like other ladies have had no issues in cold or tropical weather. For reference Japan was rather warm for this time of year - 20-23 degrees Celsius with sun out most days. I live in a tropical climate.

If it's just going to peel again, I'm not going to fork out $$ to get it repaired..

I think the issue happens because the chain is dragged across the part where it's attached to the bag (if that makes sense) - I notice the peeling is most prominent there. I wonder if it's more prominent with heavier bags i.e. medium, but not for small?

Curious to get more data points from other ladies:
1. Have you seen peeling on your strap?
2. What size is your bag?
3. When was it purchased?

Although I feel that there's probably only two paths - live with it, or pay for repair knowing it will peel again.. (or sell hah). This is only to satisfy my curiosity!

Sadly my chain strap also have peeling and i will bring it to a reputable bag restoration shop tomorrow since we dont have a chanel boutique here in our country. But i'm loving this casual look (i used a third party strap) and i attached a gold chain to add a little glam. What do you think ladies? :smile:

I really love the Gabrielle and i like to wear it while waiting for the chain strap repair to finish♡

arg. Sucks to hear your straps peeled. I still keep wanting this bag but the price and quality stop me.

Try emailing / calling Chanel customer service to see what they say, even though you don't have a boutique in your country. The email form and number is in the Care and Services part of their website - I've seen other TPF members email (https://services.chanel.com/en_US/contact) and get responses before.

Worse case, they say they can't repair. If enough people email them, maybe they'll realize how big of a problem this is.

After many months of cyber stalking my favorite consignment sites, I finally found a long sought bag - a medium Gabrielle in a dark ashy brown washed with silver splashes. It's in great condition and I am hoping the caviar leather proves resistant to the structure loss these bags can have. I'm not usually a fan of brown but I think this one works for me because it's so cool toned.

Here I was a few weeks back asking about the duma . I have since moved on , bought the WOC but now , I recently saw a picture of Pharrell with the Gabrielle hobo and I’m low key obsessed. My SA has it in the small size and i think it could make a pretty awesome crossbody. Also I feel like this bag is really hard to get - I’m going this weekend to try on but I like to hear from all of you . Soooooo - Opinions on guys with Gabrielle’s ??

Hello ladies!!! I always thought the Gabrielle was a dated old lady bag…. Until I saw it in PINK. I’m obsessed and have used it more this summer than my classics, trendy cc and even my loved 19. It’s been the best as crossbody without the logo strap when I’m with my kids. I also feel like it’s a little bit of a “if you know you know” kind of bag when the logo strap is off. I love it so much!
