Does anyone know the weight limit on these? I have a new work computer and it is VERY heavy (as compared to my Apple Air....maybe I'm just spoiled).

I don't know about a weight limit exactly, but if it helps I have a 15" MacBook Pro that weighs approx 3-4 lbs and it fits nicely in terms of both size and weight. Anything bigger would not allow the top flap to snap but then I don't expect to snap it much anyhow. I'd say a pound or two more would be okay.

This tote is tough... I totally stuff mine... big heavy Lenovo laptop, power cable and accessories, water bottle, umbrella, you name it. I posted some pics above (see post 1710 and 1711). It's so heavy sometimes I'm killing myself lugging it around the airport, so I definitely would not worry about weight. One time... I stuffed this little guy so much and it got so heavy I thought the strap would break, or the metal would rip off while I was on the road. But nope... this tote is tough! You can beat this little guy up and he won't complain! In my opinion.. even with all totes that have come out since, the Cert Tote is still the best!

I have a question about the different leathers.

My Cerf is from early 2008, black 24k gold hard ware, no strap (guess it was lost, unless older models didn't have them), slouchy leather.

This makes me crazy.

As I understand it, the tote was originally made of calf and after 2013 they changed it to deer for better structure, but isn't deer softer than calf?

And some people say there is a lambskin version, is that true?

What the heck do I have?

Also, why was it called "Cerf" (french for deer) if the original is calf?

See where I'm confused?

Does this make sense?

WFIW, the serial number is either 12388810 or 12398810.

How heavy is the cerf compared to a birkin 30? I’ve always loved this bag and keep coming back to looking for it every now and then.
It's definitely lighter, but more important to me it's ten times more functional.
I have really tried to love the Birkin, because it's an "It" bag... but it's so non-useful as a working gal tote.

There is no shoulder strap, there are no nice pockets everywhere, and I need an outside pocket to quickly pull my phone in and out. Plus, the handle on the Birkin is so short, all you can do is really hand carry it or kills your arm is hang it on the crook of your arm. (Yes, the Birkin now has this add-on outside pocket attachment probably because so many people complained... ugly to me ruins the whole look).

The Cert tote's handles are a bit longer, and depending on your build, most people can put it on their shoulder.

The best of the Cerf tote to me, and this sounds soooo crazy... it the single should strap.
I travel a lot, on planes, so I'm always going through airports. A single strap is the best. The double strap doesn't quite work for me as sometimes one strap falls down. But also, with a single strap, you can still stick your hands in the Cert tofe to get stuff out. With a double strap, the opening of the tote is kind of now semi-closed, so you have to drop a strap to grab stuff. Whew.. I hope that made sense.

Anyway, hands down I would get a Cerf Tote. Mine is so beat up, but it is still my favorite tote. It's a work horse.

Good luck to you!

I love my Cerf. I've picked up a couple of Birkin 30s, but never when I've had my Cerf with me, so I cannot directly compare. I will say, when I've picked up empty Birkins I am always surprised at how heavy they feel. When I pick up my Cerf, the clouds part and the angels sing.

I agree with some of the others that compared to a birkin the cerf is lighter. And more versatile. I have a dark brown cerf and the larger sized (15 in long) black and I find I can put a lot in if needed and still not feel weighed down. I keep going back and forth on selling the black as I use the brown regularly. As for the leather question … I’m not sure but now I’m curious. Certainly not lamb skin Both of mine are slightly pebbled, thick and supple. Wonderful feeling leather from the best of Chanel.

Hi i got a preloved black cerf tote with shw about two years ago but I always seem to only bring it to work and feel that it’s too formal for casual outings. Do you guys bring it out with casual outfits? I’m dressed quite casually when I go out so I feel that the elegant bag wouldn’t match my rather laidback style! I do love the bag and would want to use it more apart from bringing it to work! I’d love to know where you guys carry your cerfs to? :) thanks!

Hi! I view the cerf as a super casual tote. I used to carry my cerf everywhere, even lugging it on planes. Great for vacation too as it holds a ton of stuff. To me, it's a very casual bag. I would use it all the time! Go for it!
