Wish I had the space lol. Beautiful
I so want this! But space is a problem maybe I could Marie Kondo away my clothes? So visually appealing and neat.
I need to do this for sure and will investigate and order what’s needed by next weekend. Thanks for the tip and @marietouchet appreciate the Amazon items. I appreciate the one click myselfThank your Nomad!
Better play safe. Can you get a humidity monitor from a hardware store so you can keep a running check on humidity?
Short term your treasures are ok but long term might be different.
Grew up in a very old very damp house. Anything that came out of there had a particular faint odour.
You can buy packets of desiccants from ULINE & hardware stores. If they get damp you will know you have a problem, then you can deal with it by drying out the desiccant & reusing.
To avoid dust ….
@Foxy trini- Odd, I thought I had commented on this shortly after you shared... maybe it posted to another thread?@papertiger not sure this is a curation post as I’ve culled nothing lol but maybe it’s a storage post instead? I followed the link you provided over in SOTD to answer @Julide on how the labels work. Please move as you deem appropriate.
@Julide the labels are size then number and correspond to a massive google sheet I keep that has the details. When I want to find a scarf I pull up the google sheet on my phone or iPad and I determine the number to pull. My own Dewey decimal system, if you will.Or if I have picked my clothes first and I know something red is needed I search by colors and then pull the scarf that way. I live in the city in a modest townhouse so storage space is at a premium. It was built in 1921 and hasn’t been majorly updated into a slick all open floor plan kind of space (yet, maybe someday). Back to the system - so a 140 would be labeled 140-001 if it’s the first, 70 would be 70-001 , 90 would be 90-001, 100 would be 100-01 etc. I need to create an artist column, as well as a purchase price column/ replacement value if that ever becomes relevant. Attaching a snip of the google sheet, it’s a lot longer lol
Should be fine apart from possible dust, strong light, natural & artificial & stray bugs. For all of you archivists, is there any issue with storing scarves folded in half on hangers? I use a those flocked slip-proof hanger and lay a sheet of acid-free tissue over it, so the scarf is resting on top of that. I usually put two or three scarves per hanger and sort them by color. I find that if I can’t see them, I don’t wear them.![]()
My purses and wallets are in see through stackable (without drawers) and I am cursing myself. I have to pull top boxes off to get to a purse on the bottom. You obv have patience turf! I knew I’d never truly utilize my scarves daily if I had to do too much work.@Foxy trini- Odd, I thought I had commented on this shortly after you shared... maybe it posted to another thread?
Anyhoo- I wanted to thank you for sharing; I think it’s so interesting to see how other scarfies control silk chaos.
I’ve recently reshuffled to accommodate new additions and through much ruminating (& help from a scarfie friend) tried out a few of these stackable, clear refrigerator containers. I like them, but think the clear drawer idea @Nomad shared might be easier to access as I’ve stacked seasonal scarves on top

Am I the only one trying to name all the designs?
Am I the only one trying to name all the designs?
I don't know if I like them all out, I feel my scarves "need"protection. I maybe weird but I'm always worried about dust, odd smells and errant small fingers...

Turf! Wow !!! Love again how you can see it all & protect the collection. I think the Amazon drawer system is cool too, I may test it out if I can find a spot. Do you have a master list for the whole collection?@Foxy trini- Odd, I thought I had commented on this shortly after you shared... maybe it posted to another thread?

Omg! This is genious!
Nice! I'm thinking of converting to some sort of drawer system. Now my poor scarves are folded and stacked in "towers" in a couple of archival-tissue lined boxes. I think it might not be very good for the scarves toward the bottom (the weight on them). Not to mention, you can't see all the scarves very easily (although much more easily than if they were in H boxes). Being able to see the scarves and grab them easily is important to me.Sharing my system. I love this stackable system from container store.

I can see my scarves easily to wear them. I would like it better “visually” if I didn’t line the drawers with archival tissue paper, but no one sees them but me with where they are behind a curtain. I throw a sheet of archival tissue in between every couple scarves to help with the slipping. And with Foxys talk of boxes, all of mine get thrown into dead storage space in the eave. I write in pencil on the inside of the box with the name of the scarf that came in it. I think I only keep them for when I re-home. But have often thought why bother.

below are my holiday scarves ( w my autumn Tourbillons in there too) and moussies. Some are other brands. Carolina H ( the bunnies for easter) and a Spade I think ( the hearts for valentines). Don’t think I have shared my Fantaisie Pittoresque, tho I have worn it a bunch.

below are my twillys. I think maybe two in here have not been worn. The two pink amoureux. I apparently reach for pink rive droit when in a pink mood.

Below is my color sorting w my 90’s. This is my browns-softer colors-neutral colors drawer with my 3 super duper spring-like summer flower scarves on the edge. I think I put them here bc these florals feel softly feminine. I’m happy to say I have showcased on Tpf all scarves in this drawer except for my new to me white hem Samourais. Will remedy.

below is my brighter multi color drawer with pinks, purples, oranges. I have showcased on tpf all in this drawer except for my Jardin d’hiver and kimonos. I will remedy.

My 70’s are laid on top of its respective color family drawer. I don’t have many so it’s fine they lay on top.
My other drawers are:
1/ scarves with any defined red in it.
2/ blue heavy or blue based scarves.
3/ scarves with more black and greys.
4/ my csgm’s
5/ my gavs
And that’s all folks.![]()

Spoken like a true scarfie! "What clothes can I get rid of to make room for my SCARVES"?I so want this! But space is a problem maybe I could Marie Kondo away my clothes? So visually appealing and neat.
I have done a complete 180 on scarf storage. If you’ll recall, I was a die-hard boxer. “Give me orange boxes or give me death!” was my motto. But due to the ineptitude of whoever built the shelving in my closet, I had all this unusable space. A few tpfers here suggested I use it for hanging scarves. “But what of my precious boxes?!” I fretted.
Well, I took the plunge, bought some velvet hangers and tested it out. I’ve had it this way for a few months now:

And I gotta admit, I love it! It’s so nice to see what I have and it makes wearing them so much easier. In addition, at the end of the day, I’ll hang the scarf at the front. This way, I know that the scarves towards the back have been unworn for a while, making me give them a little more attention than before, or perhaps helping me see which ones I’m not feeling anymore.
The only thing I don’t like about it is now DH can see how many I have! [emoji15]
I have 2 “master lists”-Turf! Wow !!! Love again how you can see it all & protect the collection. I think the Amazon drawer system is cool too, I may test it out if I can find a spot. Do you have a master list for the whole collection?
