How do you store your scarves in your luggage when you're traveling? I'm a new collector, and so far, I've just placed one or two folded scarves in between soft (and clean!) clothing items, but wondering if there's a better way.

Also: Any advice for bringing scarves on the go generally, especially when rain is a possibility? I keep wanting to wear a scarf to an event e.g. a wedding...and then rain is predicted, so I leave it at home. Has anyone tried bringing a scarf along in their bag, perhaps inside a sealed plastic bag to protect from rain, and then putting it on when you get where you're going?

When travelling I use one of the fine mesh laundry bags, designed for laundering delicates. They come in a range of sizes, are suitable for delicate items, and usually have an enclosed zip. The flat type work really well for scarves and shawls. No snagging, they can be packed flat or rolled, and they are breathable.
Bonus: you can buy them cheaply in lots of places. Mine were Amazon I think.

I use packing cubes , small size, from ebags, which also sells on eBay , note spellings , I had to wrestle with spelling checker on those ..
there is a small rectangular bag that hits a stack of 90s, folded in half

the top is see through, handy if you get searched eg by tsa, they can see what is it there, rather than the beautiful scarf pochette by Maitai that hides the contents
i always travel with my scarves in my carry on

Oh, be still my beating heart. Now THIS sparks joy!

Although I own a small (I like to think curated, not impoverished) collection of Hermes scarves, I use a similar system with drapery hangers from the dry cleaner, the ones that come with a sturdy cardboard roll from end to end. Out of an abundance of caution, I wrap them in archival tissue paper and hang my little gems on them. On particularly good days, I drape another sheet of archival tissue over them for protection from dust.

It's so much fun to see these stellar works of art every day, IMHO.

Would love to see a photo of what you mean by drapery hangers if you are open to sharing

Oh sure, peonies13. I'm not surprised by the question since most people don't hang heavy drapes anymore, but these puppies are sturdy! The metal is heavy duty and the cardboard roll is about 17" wide. The lower one has been wrapped with archival tissue paper. I can usually fit three folded scarves on each one, but I'd rather drape two and be able to see them. The faves get their own personal hanger.

I'm not able to post a pic of the closet because we recently moved and I can't find things -- well, except for my scarves. I know exactly where they are! ;-)

Thanks for making this thread pop up. I binged read it yesterday and it was so motivational. I wear a fraction of my scarves because they are in their orange boxes. I have some plastic boxes with lids from the Container Store that I wasn't using and had a stash of zip lock bags as I order them in bulk and started on this project today. I need to order jumbo bags for my cashmere shawls. I took of photo of each scarf as well so I can tag and inventory. I found a few multiples that weren't necessarily on purpose.

So far one box for twilly's, two for 90's and a box for some vintage 90's, a few jersey's, smaller cashmere, etc. I use a spare bedroom as my closet and am putting these on these shelves for now until I can either move them into the closet or find a small dresser as I prefer my "nice" bins on the shelves but it's a start.

Does anyone have any suggestions of something right-sized sto put between each bag to kind of keep them more propped up?

Thanks again for all the good ideas. I will definitely start wearing more scarves now! Happy Sunday!

Is archival tissue paper the same thing as acid free tissue paper? I've only ever heard of acid free tissue paper.

I'm admiring your scarves, @balthus! :flowers: Remember the "name that scarf" challenges that used to happen here, with posts showing snippets of scarves? Your post is perfect for that!

I had a file box of variously sized orange boxes, on the off chance that I wanted to sell something. I finally made the bf take the whole thing to the recycling bin. "Don't even open it, just put the whole thing in so no one is tempted to scavenge it..."

Thank you for saying that …
I have been too chicken to do that and you have empowered me
It is ridiculous … I do fiddle With the boxes at times, and am overjoyed to notice tears and cracks because I then get to toss them, it is liberating to ditch one of the silly things, IT IS A BOX
