For all of you archivists, is there any issue with storing scarves folded in half on hangers? I use a those flocked slip-proof hanger and lay a sheet of acid-free tissue over it, so the scarf is resting on top of that. I usually put two or three scarves per hanger and sort them by color. I find that if I can’t see them, I don’t wear them. :hrmm:

Sounds good , there is no perfect system
A lot of mine are doubled over , like in the stores - others flat in boxes

I recently changed my 'system'. I do use the boxes to store and for a while was keeping a set of inventory cards in the same order as boxes on the shelf so I could locate the scarf I wanted similar to a card catalog. I've kept that system with my twilly tray. But I'm pretty lazy and wanted a visual. So I used a mini polaroid and labels from the Dollar Store to make tags so I can look for the picture I want. I'm sure I will re-vamp as I add silks, it is like candy, I always want more!

Oh okay good. I hear about silk moths and so forth and have always wondered if I’m more at risk being “out there,” vs in a box.

Love this! Mini Polaroid. I have never even heard of that. Off to Google…

i Have different DNA … I take off my scarf, fold it nicely but not perfectly then toss into pile in closet
one a week I clean up the messy pile
i cannot bring myself to completely put up the scarf after each wearing

I did find removable Labels on Amazon, a colored dot that fits the side of the box, and put red, blue or yellow dots on each ,
that system is flawed, is aqua a blue or a green ? There are never enough shades of the dots
and what about multicolored ??? 12 dots on side ?

Oh I certainly leave scarves out after I wear them to rest for days sometimes before they make it back to the box sometimes...the dots comment cracked me up:happydance:

My only thought here is- I bought Costco flocked hangers in black once. Used them. And noticed that I had black dye coloring coming off inside my clothing. Sooooo I always buy light colored now and test one article of clothing first With any new batch. Another time after this, I bought the Costco ones in ivory and then hosed them all off with my hose outside and let them sun dry :whut: Seemed to do the trick.

:tup:Sounds like a good system (especially with the tissue) as long as you have no direct/indirect sunlight to subtly fade top layer scarves over time... periodic reshuffling should take care of that (as well as any dust settling on top fold).

Yeah , dust on top ... you can cover with unattractive clear bags
I was jsut cleaning off the dust on top of party-wear that has been untouched for 24 months

Either way though, this is a very good point, and good advice even with the tissue. It’s like you were reading my mind, because my hangers are also black and I’ve often thought about whether the black dye would transfer or they would de-fuzz. Then of course, I tell myself “Nah!!!”  . I’ll get some light ones for my scarves just to be safe.
