Belles du Mexique
(Beautiful girls of Mexico)

At first sight, the Belles Mexique scarf looks simply like a large Mexican rug decorated with rows of multicolored circles. But when we consider the design more carefully, we are struck by its whirlwind effect, the frenetic arm movements of the dancers as they twirl like tops and spread their skirts in broad corollas. In the central square, the girl is surrounded by four male dancers of whom we see only their sombrero and a glimmer of multicolored scarf. The Belles du Mexique scarf is animated, rhythmic, alive with music. It is the joyous evocation of Mexican fiestas with their traditional Mariachi musicians. Playing violins, guitars and brass instruments, they intone many beloved songs which infectiously invite the crowd to join in: “La Bamba”, “La Negra”, “La Cucaracha” … For the Hat Dance, a tradition in the State of Jalisco and its capital, Guadalajara, the male dancers stand in parallel lines, their bodies hardly moving, while their fleet execute rapid, complex steps. We can easily imagine the girl dancers, their backs arched and their chignons tightly knotted, noisily stomping their feet to mark the beat.

Les Jardins d’Andalousie
(The Gardens of Andalusia)

Like a patio surrounded with arcades, the jardins d’Andalousie scarf depicts a small corner of paradise with luxuriant vegetation, a haven of peace and shade protected from the burning sun. Enchanted garden-patios like these, beautified with pools and rare trees imported from Persia, India and Syria, were intended to represent paradise on earth for the ancient Arabs. The gardens were traditionally found in the palaces of Andalusia as early as the 10th century. Combining both strict and exuberant forms, their geometric architecture is particularly harmonious, marked by an atmosphere of sensuality and the art of living.
In the center of the scarf, we see a profuse growth of fragrant mediterranean fruit: pomegranates, oranges and lemons, along with several tame birds like peacocks and egrets. Like so many small paintings, the arcades surronding the patio open onto Mediterranean landscapes, a rocky countryside of brown and white earth and vegetation including cactus, cypress, palm groves and neatly planted olive orchards. The borders take up the traditional décors of sculptured stucco and zelliges, which are traditional polychromatic tiles composed of geometric figures like those of kaleidoscope.

Thank you everyone who responded to my post. Yes, I pinched the photo of Gibiers from the ebay site, although this is not one that I own.

I purchased a Jardin de Andalousie in Paris this past November. But I have noticed so many of them up for sale on ebay. Does anyone have an explanation for why? Was it counterfeited or did many receive it as gifts at Christmas time but not care for it?

Jardins was made in many different colourways, that could be the reason, or, as you say, maybe people received gifts that they knew they would not use.

I would not say that they are definitely NOT fakes, but not every H design has been faked (there are SO SO many), and so far I have not seen this scarf flagged as a fake anywhere, but it certainly could happen

Enjoy your scarf, it is a beautiful design.

^^^Its from a bracelet I bought. The seller said she believed this was the name of the bracelet, and she thought there was a scarf, but she was not sure.... I have not been able to find this image on a scarf, but I have no books, only online to check.

The other part of this is, I understand an "attelage" to be a two horse carriage, and this one is clearly four. so maybe this bracelet has another name????

I really appreciate all your help. Of course if ther is a scarf, I must quest for it!!!

I found this brown coach and saddle scarf on 'houseofscarves' website, and saw a more detail picture of it on ebay. Could this be the one?

That is very close, AirMess.... definitely the right time frame...But different equipment on the horses and no feathers on their heads.

I received a response from Hermes stating that the bracelet is called "Berline", which is a coach.

I followed up and asked if there was a scarf that matched, and have not heard back. However, the scarf called Berline d"Or has matching coaches and riders in the background, sort of in sillouhette...I asked if that was the matching scarf and havent heard back yet, maybe monday.....This scarf lacks the tassel motif, so maybe the bracelet is a stand alone. I cant wait to find out.

Here is La Berline d"or (golden coach). BTW, note the copyright symbol is in the middle of Hermes Paris in this one.

Anyone know the year???

Posted this in the Hermes Scarves thread but thought it might be better asked here--

Can someone identify this plisse scarf? It's shown on the 2nd page of the Plisse scarf-tying booklet. Here's a picture:

(Gosh, I cant believe how HUGE that photo came out! I dont know how that happened!)

This all has me thinking, it's really a shame golden coaches are not used much any more LOL!

It is l Art d Ecrire by Maurice Tranchant , reissued about 5 years ago, generally hard to find and sought after

quote=mkstudio;1673593]Trying to identify a vintage Hermes scarf. Square silk, pale pink with 2" black border. The pattern is overall letters written in script, like calligraphy. Would be so grateful to ID this pattern. Thank you. Mara ([email protected])[/quote]

Went to Neiman's in St Louis today & got a baby bleu patchwork long scarf - 5 carres pieced together - H cinetique, le monde est un fleuve etc
Anyway, it was on sale ! This Spring Neiman's had 5 stores (STL & San Fran are 2 of the 5) allowed to sell Hermes scarves on sale eg regular carres $325 were $144.
This seems to represent a new marketing trend for Hermes - many places are now selling the scarves at hefty discounts eg Overstock.com, bluefly.com
Previously, the scarves were NEVER on sale at Neiman's

^Are the scarves that are on sale now previously priced at $320? Or do you think these are new stocks or perhaps stocks brought over specifically to be put on sale?
