Musique des Dieux was done in unusual cws ... Lots of super dark ones also a peach/mint/lt blue, violet/periwinkle, red/wht/blue, org/grn , ylw/red

IMHO many of the cws were at odds with the Grecian motifs - to me the patriotic red/wht/blue cw did not work at all, nor did the primary color ones

Originally i did not like the darker cws but over the years thought they went best with the theme , rather like Grecian black figure pottery
In 1996 (the year of Musique des Dieux), the Hermès theme was "music," was it not? Ballets Russes, La Musique des Spheres, New Orleans Creole Jazz, Salzburg.

Is there a set number of scarves that Hermès devotes to the theme of the year, or does it vary from year to year? I know (from Seton's blog) that the 2014 theme was Metamorphosis, but as I review the 2014 carrées, I can't find too many scarves that relate to the theme of change. Mythes et Metamorphoses, of course, and Zebra Pegasus; any others that you think fit the theme?

Marietouchet - I treasure your opinion and agree with your observations that the darker colors still stand out above and beyond.:

Well, take my opinions with a grain of salt - they are only opinions

Claudia had some designs that came in unusual/odd/unatttractive colors . I have always loved Musique des Dieux but some of the cws are hard to work with

MdS falls into a certain category for me - love the design but dislike many of the cws

Magie was another that came in sepulchral tones - deep deep wine and dark dark browns and oranges

The yearly themes used to be more concrete eg music, dance. Anyone can relate to those topics. Many designs were obviously per the theme. There was no set number.

The recent themes Metamorphose are vague (what is that ? duhhh ...) I dont relate to the topic (I am trying to avoid using a four letter word to express my disdain for the topic ...lol ) but lots of scarves BY A GIANT STRETCH of imagination fit the bill: ailes de la soie - I think butterflies when I think metamorphosis , cheval fusion , melodie chromatique - blending colors, I would say that Vie Sauvage & Brides et gris Gris do not fit the bill, but that is IMHO.

I am sure, lol, that Hermes had someone write a story for Vie Sauvage that talked about savage wildlife evolving over the centuries....

Thank you, marietouchet! That's very helpful. :flowers:

I suppose I could make a verrrrrry long stretch and call Le Bal des Oiseaux part of the theme... those birds have certainly transformed into something other than "real" birds, LOL!

Do we know the 2015 theme yet?

I never thought of Zebra Pegasus as on theme til you brought it up - OK a horse that morphs into a pegasus

To me, there have always been pegasi - since the days of 1000 BC & Mount Olympus .... I am big on Greek mythology

Me too! I just bought M d D for a Greek friend as a retirement present. (She was born here, but her husband was born in Greece, they speak Greek at home, and spend a month in Greece every year.) She doesn't retire until next year, but I saw a cw I thought would look wonderful against her beautiful olive skin, and grabbed it!

I was always surprised they never did a ´Greek'' cw of MdD ie Greek Blue and white - think Mosaique au 24 Fbg

They also did not do a good terracotta cw in MdD- like the pottery. I have this cw in Printemps de Thera because it reminds me of Greek pottery, or at least the subject does not look too silly in the cw, IMHO.

PS in case you have not figured out, I am kinds from the old fuddy school where leopards should be not pink, and flower leaves should sorta be green, at least some of the time

but I do have a Jungle Love in the monochromatic blue cw, with blue leopards not pink ones LOL

I can definitely see that, marietouchet. There's some terracotta in it, and also a very nice olive shade.

I'm usually the same way. Which is why, when I finally popped for Tous les Bateaux du Monde, I got it in CW15: Bleu Klein, Orange, Marine. The orange & yellow boats are on a blue ocean.

(However, I'm wearing my Jungle Love DD today, which is CW01: Cyclamen, Rouge, Vert).:p At least the leaves are kinda sort green(ish)!

Forget to mention for the year of Metamorphosis ...
Remember the Happy Meeting scarves ? One design on one half, another on the other
Arguably one design morphed into the other ...

Who could possibly forget the Happy Meeting scarves???:p (Well, maybe some people liked them. I should probably shut up.)

But a true "morph" would have one pattern kinda sorta "blending" into the other one, wouldn't it? Like this Escher piece, where birds morph into fish (or vice versa). Whereas the Happy Meeting scarves are just two independent patterns sitting bump up against each other.

How about De La Mer Au Ciel? Fish metamorphose into birds and vice versa on that scarf. Bit like Escher too!
