Hi All - I hope it is appropriate to post my question here. Here is my 'rencontre oceane' plisse and as you can see, the pleats are all gone. Should I re-pleat it OR wear it as a scarf? Can the experts here please advise me. Thanks a million !!

The spot may never come out but I would try washing it with a bit of spot cleaning first - I use SHOUT IT OUT - it is worth a try This refers to the whitish blob on the front - near the white antelope

This design is so busy that the spot will not show hardly at all

The scarf ties identically along the two biases so, just tie it the other way - so that the spot is folded inside, not on the hanging corners
Thank you for the reply! I am about to take the plunge with shout...

Just to add to marietouchet's excellent advice... if you have never washed an Hermes scarf before, check tPF threads or the Internet for specific instructions on how to do it properly. Here is one good link: http://mylittlescarfblog.blogspot.com/2013/03/cleaning-hermes-scarves.html

The two most important points to remember: when you're finished washing the scarf, do not wring it out. Just gently press the water out of it. And when it's dry enough to iron, do not iron the hems.

Good luck!:smile1:
I know I should wash my scarves. This insane fear helps me to be exceptionally careful when wearing them and prevents me from fulfilling my desire to make a giant bedsheet out of them. Well, all good things must come to an end and it looks like I may be washing this scarf tonight.

Good luck! I've been doing it for years and I haven't wrecked one yet. Just follow one of the many good sets of instructions on line, and you'll be fine.

Sorry if I'm off topic, Mods!

Re the unpleated plisse hmmmm

I dont think you can repleat a scarf, Hermes will pleat a flat scarf, so, you can take it to them and ask... but I dont know how good the results would be... the fee $200 ?? would be a gamble

I would suggest just wearing it , maybe as one f a pair of scarves - see SOTD thread for how to wear 2 at once, or Mai Tai blog

I think the texture difference between the flat pleated scarf and the second (pleated or not) would be interesting

A hacking knot might be good with the unpleated scarf

That's a thought - wearing it as one of a two pair of scarves :-) And you are right about the cost; $200 to have it repleat is kind of steep for me. Thank you very much, Marietouchet.

Good evening, ladies! I was fortunate enough to snag this beauty for $110 tonight and am thrilled-- I collect perfume bottles, and this just spoke to me. The lettering says "Pourvu Qu’on Ait L’ivresse". Can any of you tell me a bit about it, such as when it was made? The seller didn't quite know what they had. :tender: I'm thrilled and can't wait to receive it, as it's in like new condition! I'm hoping I got as good of a deal as I think I did :graucho:

This is an odd question but does the design of the scarf always show very vividly on the back and front of a scarf?

I am curious to hear the answer to this, I recently picked up a vintage scarf and it is not as bright on the flip side as my newer 90s. Sorry I can't help...ETA or maybe that does? It was from the Finds thread so I am almost positive it is authentic, seller has all authentic ratings :smile1: I can take pics to compare if you would like, the difference is subtle but noticeable, this scarf is also lighter in color than my others. :roflmfao: I am afraid I just made it more confusing again...hopefully someone with authority will chime in.

Honestly yes on some of my authentic vintage ones I have noticed that. The process has changed over the years but even my Indian Dust scarf from 2008 was much more vivid on one side than the other.

Indian Dust was ink jet printed - not screen printed - so a finer mist of color that does not soak through to the other side as for screen printing
